Tubs are going to be cheaper to keep, but if a tank is your preferred method then go with that. BPs arent really display animals so a lot of us keep them in tubs as that is the easier and cheaper way to do it. If you prefer to have a nice display, by all means do that. There are a lot of threads on here that deal with proper tank set up, and once you have it set up properly, it is just as easy to maintain as a tub...with the exception of cleaning.

Thanks, pav. Though, I'm actually considering the tubs, whilst adding a display inside so that they don't look so bad. The ones off RBI are actually really nice and with a ranco thermostat, a thermometer, and the tub set up its 409... which is in the long run not bad since the tub set up has three in it. I'll work on getting this, though the keep isn't the problem, but I always worry about humidity of course I keep mine up but if I'm working and come home it's pretty low.... It needs constant misting if this is going to be better in that sense by all means up up for it. I'm sure I can do plenty to make the tub look good. Especially after I get my room set up. I can't wait. I'm really in love with BPs and this site doesn't help lmao... with all the different morphs and what not. lmao.

Though I believe they should be like display animals, they are beautiful and should be shown off, not hidden. That's why I think they should have elaborate caging.

Hey good on ya, racks are not a bad way to go. The problem with your humidity in your tank can be alleviated with proper insulation of the screen top. You need to have about 75-85% of it covered with a sheet of plastic and then a sheet of foil. You only need to leave enough room for air to get in and for your heat lamp (if youre using one) to sit on. Heat lamps are another big issue as to why you might have humidity issues. Just sit here and use the search function and look up humidity, tanks. Youll get so many threads its not even funny. It is a common problem.

On the other hand, if you think a rack/tub set up is what you need, go for it dude. BPs like to hide and in a display youre going to have to decorate for the display of it more than the BP of it...BPs are low maintenance...2 hides, a water bowl and some substrate...some f00dz and they love life. And yes, tubs do tend to be a LOT better at maintaining humidity.

Of course I'm using a heat lamp! What would I be if I didn't. I don't want her to go cold now! I've been using a blanket, which is doing a better job then nothing... But I think I'm going to do the tubs, decorate them and just make them a little more eye catching then I've seen peoples. It peeves me on what substrates are used and not used... etc. I just think, ya even though they don't need much, they are a pet and just like you would a dog, give them stuff and make things look nice for them. I absolutely love my BP, and she's the nicest and most beautiful damned thing I've ever owned. I'm def. a snake person.

I'm already starting my search for the next BP.... I know I want at least four... I know I'm going to go over that one day... lmao. I'm thinking Hypo Mojave... But there are soo many combinations that are absolutely amazing like the Ghost Butter Bee! Just wow. And omg... I rescued my BP, too! And ... I believe in May, too!

Plus, my pets, all of them my degu and my BP get the best of everything. That's where all my money goes to. Haha.

Your humidity problem is most likely stemming from the use of the lamps. They will suck the humidity dry.

Most people can usually find a way to heat tanks just fine using only UTHS (2 usually). Although it is possible to just use one UTH if your room temp is around 80*.

I don't remember if you have said it before but what kind of thermometers are you using to measure how hot it is?

Sounds like the "thermostat" you have isn't really a thermostat. If it was, it would have a probe.

I second Kaorte here..... you don't need a heat lamp for balls, they get their heat from the UTH. If you were housing bearded dragons then you'd need a heat lamp.

Scrap the heatlamp (IMO they do more harm than good) and get a thermostat with a probe. You say your ball gets the best of everything? It appears that what you think is the best is a little off the mark....

I think that's a little harsh to say. I've spent a lot on the heater lamps believing she needed it. That's not OFF ... that's being more safe than sorry. Plus, from the glass terrarium set up tutorial sticky-ed, it seems I've done everything right on there. So, thanks for your un-necessary hate.

And people should read, no offense to you Kaorte because you've been very helpful!, I'm actually going to be spending to get a new habitat for my BP.

And the fact that my room is under 80 degress because I'd die at night in an 80 degree room, the heat lamp keeps it at the ambient heat is should be. The mesh is more the reason the humidity gets out.

I don't think Bundu Boy was being hateful at all.

It is the opinion of many (including myself) that heat lamps do more harm than good. Even with the screen top covered, they will still reduce the humidity quite a bit.

I would still be interested in knowing what kind of thermometers you have and where they are placed in the tank and what they read.

wow Vesta, chill a bit, these guys are very experienced and have helped many many people including myself a lot, so I would take there advice for it.

I turned off my heat lamp and have noticed much better humidity by doing that and also putting a damp towel on the top half of the cage.
