Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have now switched to tub, and the humidity problems are no longer an issue. :D

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I started of with ExoTerra tank ages ago then switch to plastic containers BUT I have them all in tubs/racks now.... I am really greatfull i did that...

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Racks all the way. Unless of Course you have 1 or 2 Balls.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tank ... all the way!!! whats the point of keeping such a beautiful animal cooped up in a rubbermaid tub ???... and a tank allows for more natural light in for the snake to absorbe UV rays - tho not nessecery help produce vitiam D3 which promotes calcium absorption and thus a healthier and happier snake !!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tubs may be easier, but for people that don't have a lot of snakes I say tanks (especially from companies like Animal Plastics, Vision, Boaphile, etc.) are the way to go.
They look soooo sweeeeet

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I'm moving from Tank to tub and want to make sure I got the right stuff...I have:
1. 2 separate hides
2. the substrate
3. the bowl
4. 2 x 32 quart tub (want to just switch tubs for changing)
5. Acu-Rite combo for now (will be ordering a Helix soon)
6. a soldering iron for burning the holes
7. foil and tape to place on the sticky side of the Zoomed
Is there anything else I need to make a smooth transition form tank to tub???

I've got ball pythons bigger than those in tubs. There's no ball python too big for a tub (for those who choose to use them).
I used to use a tank, until I saw how much better my animals fed in tubs (more consistently). Now my tanks are used for ASF's and leopard geckos.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have all my snakes in tubs (in my rack systems)... But i do have this REALLY nice glass exoterra that im going to use as a show piece in my reptile room. Every reptile room should have atleast one glass, nice looking, tank to make it look really cool.

You do know that 6ft tubs exist right?
Some tubs are big enough for retics and other giant boids, so I'm pretty sure that some tubs are big enough for your confined-space-loving Ball Pythons.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
We actually use both. We started with a tank but went to a tub rack system. The rack system is more economical, has better heat and humidity control and takes less space. The four BPs we have in the tubs are doing great, (shedding, eating and seem "happy").
We do have one female, Normal in a tank in my daughter's room but that is the only BP that will be in that room so it makes more sense. In the future I want a Pied and would like to keep it in a tank, only so I can see it easier. However, BPs are not your typical "show" snake since they spend most of their time in their hides.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
what about both? i have a tub set up as well as a tank. and if im cleaning one they go in the other.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
sorry for silly question... you mean tank = glass and tube = plastic viv right?
So... I have glass one (tank I hope :D). Big, heavy, and as I have read so far more complicated for humidity and temperature setup... However. Looks better for me so I like it...

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I initially started off with a few tanks, but when I started to increase my collection of balls it became exceedingly apparent that tanks were just plain inefficient; they have large foot prints, are not easy to work around (quickly), as most are made of glass. It’s truly amazing that I have my entire collection on one wall, which I could never do with tanks.
Basically, tanks are presentational for pet keeping, or at the most, very small breeding projects and tubs are efficient for keeping larger numbers of snakes.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I have our original Normal Ball still in it's 20 gallon long tank. I have had to make some minor adjustments to get the heat and humidity just right. All of my other snakes are in tubs which are a whole lot easier to maintain. I am currently waiting for my second rack to be delivered from Animal Plastics.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I keep mine in a tank but as soon as i get another its tubs all the way!
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Right now I have all of ONE ball python. So he's in a small tank. (Just a lil' baby boy right now.) In the future if... or when... I get more, I would seriously consider a rack-style system. Ball pythons for me are NOT display snakes. That's why I have an emerald tree boa ;) so a rack system seems to make sense in the long run.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
If I had multiple snakes and was breeding than I definitely would use tubs in a rack system. However, I have one BP that I have in a 55 gallon aquarium which is a central decoration in my living room. Not only that but Emo is a pet and is treated like the family dog.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tank as I only have on snake....and probably will only have one snake for a long while.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
First off, ya'll mentioned a "rack system" so much that you made me google it to find out what the hell everyone was talking about! Now I feel much so much smarter and informed:banana:
Secondly, since I only have 1 snake and don't plan on getting anymore, I use a 20g tank. I definately don't mind the cleaning, have the humidity/heat regulated well now (it did take some adjusting), and enjoy watching him cruise at night. I can see how even having several snakes though would make me switch to tubs because it seems it would be easier to manage when you have multiples:D

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
this is like the 10th time I've seen this tank or tub poll, give it a rest lol. Eiether or is fine.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
We now have 2 boaphile cages which makes it much easier to maintain heat and humidity than the petsmart tank we had.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
We have 13, soon 14 Balls, and they each have a tank.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I normally keep my girl in a tank, but she's on quarantine right now for pinworms. I would never use a tank for QT; tubs are so much easier to clean and disinfect on a regular basis, which is neccessary for a sick snake. I also use tubs for new snakes on QT... although Sangre gets to stay in his tub until he's big enough for a 4x2x2.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Our baby male Dahaka is in a tank, and our adult female Naga we recently moved from a tank into a tub(with our new flexwatt under it). :)
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Don't use tanks or tubs. Custom made only (by myself). Tanks and tubs are too small for me...

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Always have and always will use tubs for bp's there is no reason to use tanks unless they are on display.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I use a tank but really they aren't needed for a BP/ they aren't really a display snake. They spend almost all their time in there hides so having them in a tank makes it seem like you just have an empty tank most of the time.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
TUBS!!! Tanks are horrid! I hate them!
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I use Really useful tubs for my royals , so much better than tanks :) :gj:

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I tried out a tank when I first got a ball pythons some years ago. Had horribles problems with keeping the temps and humidity at correct numbers. Moved my snakes in to tubs and could not be happier! Temps and humidity stay at perfect numbers. NEVER will I use a tank for a snake again. Not worth the stress and the headache and possibility the money you'll be spending at the vet due to having your snake come down with issues.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I just got my first ball python a week ago. Have him in a 10 gallon tank which cost me $14 plus like $65 for all the other stuff in and out of him cage. If you look in the BP Husbandary Section you'll see what problem I have with my cage right now. I have him in a tub right now and he is so happy lol! Im so happy I've read this thread and thought about it. Now when she gets bigger I don't have to worry about spending 300 dollars for a 40 gal setup I had planned.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tub club for life!!! never lookin back.
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
i just switched from tanks to tubs and love it and having a rack system lets you house alot more snakes as well :gj:

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I had a tank for 2 months, 1 month ago I switched to a tub, and am planning going back to a tank because it is more aesthetically pleasing and I only have one bp so, what the heck. Tubs are good for 3 or more snakes, tanks for 2 or fewer.

I disagree. I travel 500 miles with my one snake frequently. Having a tank was a nightmare. Not to mention it being a lot more work to clean. Plus having to fight to keep the husbandry correct. I was using two UTHs and a ton of insulation and I had to coverthe top for humidity. In my case, a tub nearly takes care of itself.

I switched my snake from a tank to a tub yesterday, after 2.5 years!

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
first i started with tanks but after that change to tubs :)
-
Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
Tank, but considering tubs.

Re: Do you have your BP in a tank or tub?
I used to have tanks , now I have a rack(s). If you keep multiples, its the only way to go, IMHO. They make life so much easier.
