I'm on the phone with Petco right now. I paid with Paypal, they are saying they have to get a manager's approval to release the funds back to my account. If you used Paypal I'd definitely call. She stated there was a "hold" on the funds and they won't be released until the individuals call.
At the end of the conversation I asked her when I would get my money back, she said "as soon as they read the email to approve releasing the hold." She said it should happen sometime today. Just thought I'd update those of you that paid with Paypal.
-
I'm glad I didn't order any. I knew they would be refunding people... now you all have to wait to get your money back :P

large exo-terra $25??!!
They told me 5-7 days.
They got a huge increase of money to play around with for a couple of weeks ;)
Edit**
It was also nice of them to tell everyone that they were never charged when the order was canceled.

Not true, I got my refund on monday by paypal. Start a claim if you don't want to call. It's probably preferential to them than receiving 1000 calls anyway.

On PayPal, it says it was refunded on the 23rd. However, it just cleared through my bank. (It was processing through yesterday). WHAT?
Time to blow up some phones....

large exo-terra $25??!!
Has anyone received an 'In process' email from petco about their order? I just received an email saying my order is in process.
-
large exo-terra $25??!!
Yeah, 2 of them.
It's nice to know their emails are automated and mean nothing.
-
I honestly don't see why anyone is surprised in this situation. Did you really think that this was going to go through? I can understand trying to get your money back but saying that they're terrible and everything? Come on, you tried to buy a $250 tank for $25 knowing that it was marked wrong. Who's the terrible here? Not trying to offend anyone, just trying to state my opinion and get my point across.
-
large exo-terra $25??!!
I would say the company that takes someone's money, says they didn't and then won't give it back.
Would it be ok if I placed an ad here, took payment, told the person I made a mistake and that I didn't charge them, hold on to their money and not give it back?
What if I put a disclaimer in the ad saying I'm not responsible for any mistakes in the ad? Why is no one responsible for their actions as long as they put up a disclaimer?
I thought it was too good to be true. I tried to take advantage on a good deal.
There were 3 different spots on their site claiming this deal was real. People said they called and informed them and they didn't fix it. A company that big should be able to change a price within mins.
The laws here state that when something is priced lower than actual price, you get it for the posted price.
Why should online stores be any different?
I tried for a deal to good to be true, shame on me.
They took my money and lied about it. That's fine, just put up a disclaimer saying its ok to do so.
-
large exo-terra $25??!!
I'm not complaining about it, I knew it most likely wasn't going to go through. I'm just wondering why I got an in-process email from them since the order was cancelled.

When you work hard every day for your money without being able to ask parents for money you may understand a little better... 3skulls hit the nail on the head tho. Bottom line don't take my money without ever intendeding to send me the product dont be surprised when people get upset over it. I know ive had to call them 4 times and ask why they say i already got the money when I haven't.

the mike guy told me their system is "glitchy" at best, the in process emails are all automated. after the first buisness day it sends that out.

I understand that they won't give the money back, but you have to think about how many people they have to refund and through how many different ways, (ie. Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, etc.) No, not shame on you because you're a nice person, and everyone here knows that, but think about it, did you really and totally honestly think that it was going to work?

I don't need for you to tell me about asking my parents for money. I paid for my snakes, their food, their enclosure, etc. I have also paid for every piercing in my body other than one that was a "birthday gift." Try again.

Cool you paid for what you want. Kids shouldnt be just handed thing either. You have zero bills dont act like you have some understanding of adulthood. And if you would like to keep being disrespectful we will take this to PMs.

Re: large exo-terra $25??!!
I wasn't aware that letting you know that I pay for the things I want would be me trying to grasp an understanding on adulthood, that's not what I'm saying. YOU, told me that I should get to understand what it's like to earn money and then this happen without parents just handing it over. I'm not being disrespectful, I was merrily giving you an answer. I won't take this to PMs, I'll be the bigger person here and drop it. Thanks.:)

Im aware of what I told you and I stand buy it, when bills are a huge part of your life at times people take money more serious than needed. It is a part of life you will learn once you get out on your own and have to pay for everything. Now im going to ignore the shot at the end as a child needing to get in the last word. Done with this now anymore from you adressed to me ill respond by pm, this thread is filled with enough negative.

Seriously, Nick? You started it with him.
Therunaway is 100% correct IMO. Everyone knew it was a mistake and still tried to grab onto these cages. Do you know how many people tried ordering? A LOT. I don't think that everyone will be getting their refund in a day.

Re: large exo-terra $25??!!
I once returned something to Petco, it took two weeks for it to show back up in my account. Even though when I bought it, it came right out. And I had receipt showing it returned. I think thats just the way their crappy system works.

Unfortunately, this is the way almost all merchant services work. Petco tells the banks to issue refunds and the banks typically take 7-10 business days or long to do it. There are many reasons banks put delays on refunds, many of them having to do with preventing different types of fraud. It is even likely it is YOUR bank putting in the longest delay. Putting through a refund electronically is actually a very complicated process for reasons of security and due to how many companies handle these electronic transfers. To issue the refund, it must be approved by and go through the merchant, the credit card service company, the credit card company, the bank the credit card company uses (or the proper division if the credit card owns its own bank), and then your bank if you used a debit card. The entity in the middle of the refund chain doesn't want to refund the next company until it is sure that it got a refund from the company before it.
Its kinda like when you're at a ball game in the middle of a row and order peanuts. The vendor tosses you the bag and you pass the money to the person next to you and they pass the money to the person next to him and so on down the line. It would be faster if everyone just took out a $5 bill and handed it to the person next to them so no one would have to wait for the money to travel down the line and the transaction was done at once. But we don't do that because someone in the middle could simply not hand the person next to them any money. Its much safer for everyone in the line to pass the same $5 bill to the next person, even though it takes longer. Now imagine, instead of just passing along that $5, everyone in the line must record when the received it and by whom, verify its authenticity, comply with any government regulations regarding the transfer, and then record the time and transfer to the next person. It just takes time.
And the delay goes both ways. The merchant may not get your money for days after the sale was completed. Obviously, things are smoother in the payment process then the refund process because this is how 99% of the money is moved, but it is still complicated. People often take for granted how complex our "easy" one click shopping really is behind the scenes.

I've returned other things, say to Target or whatever, and it goes right back in a day or two. I thought Petco however took forever.

And before anyone says "wait, my bank gives merchants the money the next day," this is a service that banks do to better serve their customers. They give you the money days before they receive it from Visa, Mastercard, or whatever. Its like cashing a check in a bank. If you're a good customer, they won't put a hold on it and will cash it before they receive the funds from the check's issuing bank.
Unfortunately, no banks, merchant services or credit card companies advertize "we do the fastest refunds" or attempt to speed the process along. No one in the line likes doing refunds as it only costs them time (money), so they aren't going out of their way to make it more convenient. Refunds are relatively rare enough that it doesn't mater. Complaining to your bank or credit card may get them to credit you the money faster and before they get their money refunded, but that is between you and your bank.

Larger companies have the clout to push their banks to move faster or may use other methods to refund you faster. A return from Walmart may be almost instant, but from a smaller company could take a week or more, even with the same card. Many other factors may also be involved. Walmart, for instance, probably does its own merchant services so they can refund you directly. Similar to a bank cashing a check, they essentially give you a one week loan as everything else gets taken care of behind the scenes.
