If you can't afford the ranco or johnsons then get a reptitemp 500r. There is nothing wrong with this t-stat. I have used it with no problems and so have many others. They should only be around $20.

I don't know if you have a dollarama but they have fantastic plants for a buck! I find pet stores are way too expensive, plus once you get bored with the set up you can change it for much less

lol she is pretty small. Pet stores are way to expensive, I got my plant from petco on CLEARANCE for $8.99.

She will be fine without a UTH until you can get something to regulate it and check the temperatures of. I tested my Zoomed 10-20 gallon UTH once and let it go unregulated; it went up to 138*F on the glass before I decided to shut it of. Imagine your BP laying on that. :(

And please get the acu-rite asap and get rid of the analog stuff. You wont regret the money you spend on her, trust me. (I spent $300 on Oz's enclosure to ensure it is 100% safe and comfortable for him.)

The difference between a rheostat and thermostat is a LOT. A rheostat only dims the power of your UTH (or whatever you plug it into) and it is very unreliable. If your room temperature flucuates 1 degree, so does your UTH. You have to constantly tweak it and it is a huge hassle walking into your room and finding your UTH is 5* over what it was a half hour ago. :(

A thermostat tests the temperature of the UTH and turns it on/of (or dims the power) accordingly. You set it to 95*, and it will stay at 95* no matter what your room temperatures are. I suggest any of the higher priced thermostats (helix, herpstat, ranco, + johnsons) but the reptitemp 500r will work fine if you keep an eye on it. You cannot set the reptitemp to a certain temperature like the higher end thermostats. The reptitemp 500r is like a step above a rheostat. I use it temporarily at the moment until I order a different thermostat and it WORKS but I would rather not worry about the temps constantly. To me it is worth spending the extra $100 for peace of mind.

About believing the two identical hide stuff, you better believe it. I had two almost identical hides, the rock cave ones you buy from pet stores. Except one was dark brown and the other was tan. My BP ALWAYS preferred the darker one which was on the cool side. Now They are literally identical and he thermoregulates from one end to the other as he should.

You could cut holes in bowls or whatever works for you, just make sure they are both identical.

I would also buy more plants and make sure most of the inside is full. You could also take another step by covering 3 sides with black foam board. I find it looks REALLY good.

Here is a picture of Ozzy's setup if you are interested. This is when I had the two different color hides. He is around 250-300 grams.

Here's my version of the 'acu-rite'

    Hope this helps.

Well Ill probably try to get the zoomed reptitemp 500r then since its one i could probably go out and buy instead of buy online. And its cheaper.

If I covered the sides I would probably use one of thoes aquarium background things.

I might go out today and try to find the repti temp 500r and fake plants ect.

your best bet is going to be a petsmart, I personally have never seen the repti temp 500r in any stores around here so you might have to order offline.

Most stores can order one for you if they do not normally carry it. I work at a local Pet Store and order odd things all the time for people.

Like I said the reptitemp works fine for small scale and it is cheap, just make sure to keep an eye on it. :D

I went to petsmart and they said that they have it online but its an online only item

so what would be like $22 is like $35 with shipping. and my parents hate when i use their credit cards to order offline.

Also since i couldnt find an acurite at walmart i might get that fluker thermometer and hydrometer, then go to petco and get a digital thermometer they have with a probe. i saw it online for $6 i hope they have it in store.....

Where do you guys get food? I just found out that rodent pro is a deal yes but shipping is like ... alot. and petsmart had small mice? i think it was for 6 for $11

i might try going to the same reptile show i got my snake from $4 to get in but they have a rodent pro stand so that would like take away shipping costs...

AHHH idk i guess ill try to order the thermostat since it would be a waste just to buy a rheostat then get a thermostat.

haha i dont wanna breed rats or mice since I only have one snake.

well i already got some frozen mice which should last untill the next reptile show since they have one like every month. (hopefully i can get my snake to eat the frozen thawed since its only ever eaten live
