The new album is ok. It's infinitely better than St. Anger, but so is Britney Spears, so that doesn't say much.

I think the songs are good but James voice is shot to hell. Anything he sings now just isn't all that great. And the mix is just bad. I don't know if it's on purpose or not but there are several instances in every song where the drums drown out the guitar. That should never happen. Ever. But I guess that fits the attitude of the drummer.

I think Justice was the best Metallica album ever followed by Master of Puppets, then Ride the Lightning, Kill em all, and Garage days. When they came out with the black album i lost all respect for them. That was the speedy decline of Metallica in my book.

I still rock Justice monthly in my car. I just cant seem to take it out of rotation. kinda like Aenima - that cd will NEVER leave my changer!

True I am a true die hard Metallica fan. But really from the "Black album" on it has been hard to be a fan.
They have a couple of songs here or there but for the most part the Black album is when they "SOLD OUT" so to speak. I cant blame them at all. I would to and so would most for the kind of money they pull in. Its the American way.
The only way I can guess the sound is whack on the new Death Magnetic is because they were trying to capture the old garage sound. Like on Jump & Ride & MOP.
I like 6 out of 10 songs on Death Magnetic.
Again. if you really read what I wrote i never ever said it is better than MOP. But it is the best album after that.
The band "soft".. Hmm how about older.. Unless you personally have been in a major band and that is your only income and you have drug / drinking problems and band problems etc. I think they have lasted pretty well. Beat out the 80's bands. Wish Pantera was still together..

For a wrap up.. This is not the end all be all cd by any means. But it is a big relief for us who have been following them for years now. They will be here in my state with Lamb of God. Now how Metallica plans on topping them will be hard to do. I am a HUGE LOG fan. They will try to out play Metallica and do a pretty good job of it.

Oh and for Slipknot fans.. Ouch.. sorry about that album.. 1 good song maybe 2.. The rest sounds like elevator music. Now that was a sad album..

    Just my 2 cents

Oh that whole Death metal/Black metal stuff.. sorry cant get into it.. No real "beat" just sounds like noise. I like a real beat and lyrics I can kinda understand. I am sure my kid will laugh at this. But he knows. He listens to Job for a cowboy and such.. Noise.. some good music but mostly noise. Either way better than RAP music.. :gj::D
    At least they play instruments..
