Myspace helps me keep in touch with close friends and such - I know, you think - if you are friends then why don't you just call? That happens too, but sometimes it's just easier, and some live faaaaar away and the phone call would cost $978634897569280.
It's fun and easier to share pictures, and I find the event option pretty useful :)
