Read Fast Food Nation... It's a fascinating read!!!
Thanks Heather! I'm never going to eat again. This beef jerky I have here at my desk is useless now.

Nevermind.
How did I miss the point I understand what your saying 100%. I just find that its cruel to drown a snake in an alcoholic beverage. I completely understand the use of venom as medication. I just think it should be done in a more humane way (extracting the venom and just putting it in the drink). By no means am I saying that using snake venom is disgusting. Because snake venom and vodka has to be a great mix as pat said;) And I'm not joking.

The show on Travel channel with Andrew Zimmerman.... the dishes that man has tried. Wow. They had a drink with a pickeled gecko in it....braver then I could be.

Who said it was drowned? They are killed before placed in the alcohol from what I understand. I think you are assuming a bit too much about the way things are done.
I know how it is done in China, and they dispatch of the snake before putting it into the alcohol....

Re: Disgusting
While it is not appealing to ME (snails and frog legs are not either and I am French ), it does not offend me!
What is disgusting for one might not be for another, different cultures have different sensibilities and ways to do things.
Some animals are sacred in some part of the world while in other cultures they end-up on the dinner table.
I think it is important to be open and understand other cultures without judging because they do thing a little differently, if the animal was raised for that purpose and euthanized humanely who are we to judge.
I ate farm raised alligator before, is it disgusting? I guess so to some people somewhere!

Re: Disgusting
My only thought is that it was bottled by peyote pete, or something like that, and he doesn't sound very asian to me or part of that culture and he didn't have a liquor license...
Cultural diversity and acceptance (or at least tolerance) is very important to me. But someone doing something without the ritual and culture behind it seems like a fake action and born with opportunistic and capitalistic ideology.
My two cents.....
