These clips however portray each and everyone of us like shumks in front of millions of people.

Fox and friends I believe was taped first, that hole incident was Jacks fault for letting Brain PLAY with a (what was described as a venomous animal that he clearly states was not a venomoid, however I believe it was and he was just lying) cobra....... How the two of them could leave that studio and not say that went terribly wrong, that we look like a bunch of clowns and did a terrible injustice to responsible reptile keepers is beyond me. HOW they could allow the same thing to happen TWICE is utterly irresponsible and tells me they were there to just get their faces on TV and show boat regardless of the repercussions.

I don't know whats worse, show boating to put your face on TV or truly not knowing what the hell your doing yet going on National TV claiming to be "the best herpetologist around"

Once an unfortunate mistake, twice = 100% loss of any and all respect I had for either one of them.

    Well put.

Apparently it is a venomoid and owned by one of Bob's employees. Here's a post from him in KS regarding the show. It's funny that he starts out in the thread defending Bob, but then finally admits to owning the snake and working for him.

I do respect Bob a lot for what he has accomplished in this hobby, but I think he made a mistake with this appearance. Of course we don't know all of the details, but having this type of spectacle occur twice doesn't make him look good. :(

Well I have to say I totally agree with all of the post so far, but it did make me LMAO. Whats really sad is that in a world with so many problems we aren't able to just relax and enjoy a good laugh.

I suppose it would be funny if it didn't directly affect the people in this hobby. Instead of using that opportunity to show the snake-fearing public that these creatures aren't the horrible demons that so many people believe, they instead use their time to entertain, frighten, and spread lies about how one drop of venom can kill an elephant.

To give you an example of what we're up against, I'm trying to get permits to build a snake building on my property. The project passed all of the departments except for one... Planning. The person in charge of reviewing my project delayed the approval because he looked up "Bald Pythons" on the internet and somehow found a site about Rock Pythons and how they can have clutches of up to 200 eggs. He was convinced that I was going to produce thousands of man or pet eating snakes that could get loose and take over the local fauna while posing a serious threat in my neighborhood. I was finally able to educate him after going over his head and speaking to his superior, but this is just one example of the problems the people in this hobby have to face.

The appearance on Letterman certainly didn't do any favors for those of us trying to convince a ophidiophobic society that our pets are safe and non-threatening. Every year we have to deal with battling more restrictions and laws that make it more difficult to keep these creatures, so obviously something like this event is going to irritate more than a few people.

Well, seeing Letterman scramble was a bit amusing, but the way these two highly esteemed guys went about the whole thing was just ridiculous. Bob sitting there mishandling the snake and generally acting like he didn't know what the heck he was doing, Jack jumping around like a lunatic, and spouting ridiculous facts like "one drop of venom can kill an elephant" and just generally acting like a blithering idiot...

You know, I seem to remember Jack, when talking about Steve Irwin's death, saying something to the effect of "Well I'm sorry for the loss, even if I didn't approve of his methods" (and that is paraphrased, it's been quite a while since I saw the video). That would imply that he doesn't approve of acting all hyper and nutty to entertain...but what he pulled was 10 times worse than anything Steve ever did.

Not to mention lying about it being venomous just to scare people. How any responsible herpetologist could do that, ESPECIALLY in the wake of the current Boa/Python restrictions being proposed...just stupid. The last thing needed right now is more bad public image of snakes.

Plus, Steve would have had the guts to handle an INTACT Cobra, and handle it CORRECTLY, while educating people instead of scaring them.

Well again I totally agree with you Lawrence. And I am sorry that you are having problems persuing your plans. The thing is that we are all just preaching to the choir. Everybody here already knows how bad their behavior looks. Question is how do you make other people see how bad it is. Also by veiwing these videos aren't we increasing the ratings of the vary actions we dispise. Jeff

I think the whole thing was a staged act to look like they lost control and everyone is in danger(Everything on TV is prepared/staged even reality TV). There is no way any insurance company or any network would allow a deadly animal on a set with only a basket and snake hooks to protect them. I think it's a given that it had no venom. It is still sad that Bob would participate in such an irresponsible display of snake handling. Most people don't know one snake from another and this makes the hobby look like a bunch of death wish fools. Not helpful:mad:
