While doing research on possible future dog ownership, I found this site pointed out. I thought it was VERY helpful learning not just brand names, but what to look for in dog foods and what the pros and cons are to the wide variety of options available out there are.

Also, don't use those stupid flexi-leashes - we did that with Diamond, never again - never! You really have no control over your dog, and it only teaches them to be the leader, not the follower. Not to mention in the summer when they whip around you and that leads cuts into your legs - OW!!!!

well i've been reading the page on the link that Judy left. pretty interesting. Nutro Ultra has lamb meal in it as well as other proteins that help puppys grow up healthy.

Typical Labrador, Sunny, they'll eat anything that they can reach. I swear that Labs have some goat blood in there somewhere LOL. Halti's are a godsend for keeping dogs from snatching up anything on the ground during a walk.

Snake, basically the concept of the head collar is that where a dog's nose goes, so goes the dog. When you control their nose, you control them and they can't do much about it really. With other collars that go around the neck or chest you are working against some of their strongest muscle mass (depending on breed) and especially with big breeds, you are going to have a grand old time if the dog is stubborn or dominant by nature. A Halti is not a muzzle though. It does not keep your dogs jaws closed when there is no pressure on the lead.

Most dogs will fight a head collar at first. That's totally normal but they generally give in very quickly and work well with them. Even a short woman like me (I'm barely over 5 feet) can easily control a strong dog using a head collar. If you can move a cow or horse by a halter, you can move a dog. :)

If you haven't got the pup a Kong yet, I'd suggest one. They come in tons of sizes and really stand up well to heavy chewing. You can hide kibble treats in them or even a dab of peanut butter. All our dogs have loved their Kongs and they actually last a good while.
