Re: Anyone suffer from migraines here?
I have fibro, and TMJ. The jaw disorder can set off a tremedoud amount of pain in my face, the tension of that pain sets off the migraines, which I am also prone to.
One thing that has DEFINITELY helped me with the migrianes(I mean the ones that will last longer than a full day, complete with retching and wishing for an ax murderer to show up and put you out of your misary) is rosymary oil.
You apply a bit on your carotid arteries, and perhaps on your temples. You'll feel sleepy, and you MUST go sleep. Not lying down means you'll not get rid of the migraine. Once asleep, you'll stay asleep a couple hours, maybe three... then you're going to wake up hungry, without the migraine.
Yes, it means you have to nap for 2-3 hours.. but it works. And having tried napping without the oil applied, all I got was more nauseous, until I got up to vomit again, the rosemary seems to dull everything out, and let's me go to sleep, then it relaxes the tension in the blood vessels somehow. At least that's what I was told, I don't care about anything other than the fact that it works.
Haven't found anything to help with the fibro pain yet. Wish I could.

I feel for you. I've had migraines since I was about 7 or 8. They thought it was my eyes so they gave me glasses. Didn't help. I find the best way is to just get a cold washcloth and turn the lights off. Sometimes it sucks though when you are at work. My face gets really pale and I get nauseated. I suppose you can always take Imitrex. I'm just not a big fan of medications.

Wolfy you need to be mixing that rosemary oil with a carrier oil...here's a bit of a write up on it.

    Aromatherapy Tip of the Month

~ Rosemary Oil for Migraine Headaches~

http://www.c-potenz.de/Mittel/Rosmarinus-off.jpgAre you a migraine headache sufferer? You may find some comfort in this simple aromatherapy tip using Rosemary Oil.

Rosemary Essential Oil ( Rosmarinus officinalis) is a clear, refreshing, widely available and affordable essential oil with dozens of beneficial therapeutic properties.

At the onset of a migraine heachache, mix 10 drops of Rosemary Oil with one ounce of carrier oil (olive oil, almond oil, or other vegetable oil) and massage into your head, face, and neck. (It's an even better idea to have this pre-mixed so it's right at hand when you need it!) Give yourself time to relax with this massage, preferably lying down in the dark.

Another alternative is to place a few drops of Rosemary Oil in a cool foot bath. Again, take time to relax with this.

If you are unable to use these methods (at work or away from home), place a few drops of Rosemary oil on a tissue and inhale at short intervals. Keep a bottle of Rosemary at your desk for this purpose. Peppermint and chamomile are also good general headache remedies when used in this way.

As always, never use essential oils on the skin without first diluting them with a carrier oil. Do not use rosemary oil if pregnant or if you suffer from epilepsy or high blood pressure.

Wolfy I listen to this guy weekly on a radio show (Dave Foreman, The Herbal Pharmicist). Here's a link from his website for fibro suffers that I hope might be of some help to you. It's such a complex disease and often disregarded by the mostly male physician group (since a lot of suffers are put off as being women looking for attention sort of thing). Hopefully a homeopathic approach might be useful to you in alleviating some of the symptoms.

Re: Anyone suffer from migraines here?
Ive been getting bad migraines since I was a kid myself. I was on a prescription migraine blocker for about 2 years - can't remember the exact name as that was some time ago, but something like Allananol or Propananol - something like that anyway. It helped reduce the frequency that I got them, but it's most noticable side affect was depression - not much of a trade off really - so my parents finally took me off of it.

While I was on that, the docs had also given me 2 other prescriptions to help when a migraine actually hit. One was codeine (dunno if I spelled that right) which I took when a full-blown migraine hit. Pretty much just knocked me out cold. The other was a pill they told me to take the instant I felt like a migraine was coming - it was called caffergotte (again - probably not spelled anywhere close to right). When I got a little older I did some internet research - and sure enough that pill that they had me taking when I felt a migraine coming on was nothing but pure caffeine. Turns out caffeine can help block migraines in some situations - at least thats what they believed back in the day - don't know if they still do.

I realize caffeine has its own health concerns - but with the hours I keep these days, I live on caffeine - cup of coffee somewhere in reach at almost all times....and I'll be darned if the amount of migraines I get hasn't gone *way* down. Don't know if the 2 things are linked - or if I just outgrew the migraines.....but I'll take a few cups of coffee over a migraine any day...

Re: Anyone suffer from migraines here?
I am not sure if the headaches I get are migraines or what, but it begins with pressue behind my eye. Usually the left, sometimes the right and then makes it way to the middle of whatever temple on the side where the pain is. I then get sick to my stomach, stick neck, etc. Never threw up yet. I refuse to eat while my head hurts that much. I've only gotten them the past 7-8 weeks. 4 or 5 times so far. They hurt like hell, nothing seems to help. I just bought excredin migraine so I need to try that out. i am not sure what usually causes them but the pressure behind my eye is an oncoming sympthom. I've googled it an came up with Cluster Headaches and Migraines...so I dunno...

    Layna,

What you're describing could be a migraine. There are also stress headaches that could be started that way. Some of my migraines are that very thing, but you'll need to keep an activities/migraine diary and talk to a dr. to pinpoint WHAT sort of headache it is.

If you're into the aromatherapies, I use a Migra-Stick. Basically it's lavendar and peppermint oils in a roller ball application. I get it at the natural supplements store where I buy my vitamins. If you use it, just be careful NOT to use it too close to your eyes (like run-off from your temples). One of mine, the ball seat was cracked, so I got A LOT!! of oil and didn't know it. As it warmed and ran, I got it in my eye. :( NOT FUN!

Those and the Migra-Ice mentholated pads you can buy help too.
