The Acme jar looks very unique, it would be a keeper in my book. The little salt/pepper shaker is pretty neat aswell, you could try soaking the bottle lid down in some vegetable oil to get the lid nice and clean. Dont really know how that works but my grandmother has a old salt shaker soaking in oil and its coming out pretty well.

Generally the screw top stuff isnt worth much, althought there are some worth BIG BUCKS. You can look at the seems on the side from where it was made and if the seem stops before it reaches the lip then it should be from around 1900 or older. Keep looking and if you find somewhere to dig, be SURE to wear THICK leather gloves, I havnt been able to dig for a while cause I was reaching for a broken jar to get it out of the way and it sliced right through my glove and pretty deep into my finger, not very fun:rolleyes:.

    Whoa, that sounds painful :(
I found a lot of busted jars (and a really cool skull; think it is from a coyote?) also. I plan on going back there tomorrow with Mark, b/c he was intrigued when he saw what I found..
I actually have used one of the Atlas jars as a betta container.. got the idea from a friend. And it is about twice the size of the bowls most people use :)
Two of the bottles I have, the seams stop short of the tops. I read on that site you linked to, that this Does mean they are older.. now I want to just go out and find more :) Addicting.. even if they are worthless, they make cool decor pieces and fit right in with our country kitchen. My friend's sister paints scenes on them and sells them (mason jars.) I think I will try my hand at that also.

Sometimes ppl would use old mayo lids and stuff for home canning. Looks like some of the ones my grandmother would use. Can w/the canning lid, and then put a mayo lid on top...OR sometimes she'd do the wax canning to seal the jar and put the lid on.

It doesn't look like it came w/the jar...but was added by someone when they were doing their own home canning.

    :2cent:

Beautiful!! cobalt blue bottle(s), BTW...I think that's the prettiest shade of blue!

off, off-topic.....Gin, did U know that keeping Bettas in the 'plish' or a little bowl or jar isn't healthy for them?

I didn't until mine got sick and I did a whooooole bunch of searching and research......

In the tabletop bowls and such, the water is unhealthy (no matter how many times you do a water change.......wrong pH and not enough O2) and they don't stay warm enough.

    Just an FYI. :)

    < If I get another one, he'll go into a biiiiiiiig aquarium. :D >

    (All done. :) )

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to ask if you had a site for old bottles that shows history, value, ect. I found quite a few old bottles and we are curious now about them

Ebay is a good place to look at prices on bottles, there are also a few websites to find out the prices. The best place to look are bottle books/price guides. Ill send you a PM with a bottle website that may help ya out.
