try some cryptocoryne and anubias--they tend to be easy and hardy. two that have worked really well for me no matter what i did to them: cryptocoryne willisi and anubias nana. cryptocoryne balansae also does very well once you get into the routine of keeping the tank reasonably clean ( i slacked for a while). i don't do that much tank maintenance with these plants and i have fish in with them too. if you just had the plants it would require even less.
Re: Lets see where you work!
Every time I start to do research on planted tanks, I get into the descriptions of CO2 systems, substrate heaters, and the pH monitoring equipment and all that mess. Seems just as involved as saltwater sometimes...

that's why you should get the plants i mentioned. i use no special equipment and they thrive. :) all i have is a regular filter on the back of the tank and every once in a blue moon i add some liquid plant food stuff i bought at petsmart. i went through a lot of plants before i found ones that would do well in my tank without a lot of special equipment and maintenance, but these are it. i want to add some different crypts since the two species i have are working out so well.

I work behind these evil black sarcophagi in a dim windowless room awash with constant white noise - oh lucky me ;)
