Joe, kids getting what they want and knowing the true meaning of christmas are not mutually exclusive, as your previous post might imply.

Any good parent would want to make their kids happy so long as it is within their means. A $4k game system may very well be affordable to some parents, and not affordable to others. Just thought I'd point that out.

I would think that everyones true meaning for Christmas is different ... For us, it's certainly not about EVERYONE getting what they "WANT" ... among other things, for my family it's about a time of reflection, celebrating the birth of Christ with our church, giving back to the community via the Toys for Tots program that we've been volunteering in for the last 10 years (since my days as a jarhead), and taking time out of our hectic lives to spend a lot of quality time together as a family ... oh yeah, and pigging out on moms most awesome cooking!!!! :D

As for my little 5 year old boy, he gets EVERYTHING that he WANTS from Santa ... I work hard and do very well financially for the sole purpose of giving him the best life possible ... and he gets it, no question ... he deserves it ... all you'd have to do is spend a little time with him to know why.

Just curious, if your "NOT putting me down here", what was your point? Why would you call me out on the meaning of Christmas? I thought this thread was about PS3's ... I'm the "nutcase" that's trying to get one ;) ... did it really have to evolve into "why"?

Hey, you'd be suprised what I've done for my kids. Just this morning I had to 'save' a worm that was on the sidewalk. Ewwww. The kids just look at me with those eyes and tell me that it's essential we walk back and have ME put the worm back into the grass. I still don't know why I did it. :bleh:

As for toys, I think it's insanity what we go through but it's so worth it when we see our kids faces light up. Do we want them thinking the season is all about them? No. Which is why it's important that they understand how lucky they are and try and give back to the community. My son just helped raise money for Le Bonhuer's Hospital. It's just a matter of keeping things in perspective. :D

The meaning of Christmas for me involves no hanger over and not allergic reaction to red wine like I did 3 years ago. God that was an awful morning ...

We went to Best buy in Mankato Mn today and picked up 2 of them. We left here at 6 am got there at 7 or so and waited until about 7:45. You only could purchase on there so I got one and Jodi got one. Obviously we are keeping one and putting the other up on ebay for sale. We were very lucky to get them. There were 4 left when we got ours. Ebay money will be going towards new ball python morphs. It wasn't crazy there or anything. Walmart had 4 this morning in Mankato when we got there too.

My husband and I will be buying a second gen one, I tend to steer clear of 1st gen products since they haven't normally gotten all the bugs worked out.

In Japan the Yakuza purchased more then 80% of the released items then would go outside the stores and sell them many times their original selling price.

At a Circuit City near me, the guy who was first in line was offered $3000.00 for his place in line and he turned it down. I would have taken the money, put $600.00 aside for a second generation one, and spent the rest on Christmas presents. Don't get me wrong, I would like to have one, but I can wait 8 months or whatever it will take.

my daughter said that they were selling extended warranties to the people who picked on up this morning... explaining to them that when they put the item on ebay people would pay extra for the security of knowing it'll get replaced if it IS defective :)

i see a deal in the works... david has a PS3 and adam has morphs!!! ;) seems like a match made in heaven to me!

and i must say... my hubby doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs, go to the bar or anything else that costs money... so if he wants a $659.00 new game system with all the bells and whistles... well he gets it. plain and simple. the guy works long hours out in the cold and if he wants to come home and unwind while playing a video game... all the more power to him ;)
