OK im the one who was on vacation.............lol
im in ireland. Just got back yesterday and am a little jetlagged.......lol As for chips(french fries) uk and ireland its curry sauce, american its ranch dressing (yummy)

Not Holland-ish at all. All the miners and factory workers in and around the Bolton area wore clogs when I was a young 'un. Hand shaped, wooden soles, leather uppers and a metal 'sparker' on the sole of some to extend the life of the sole. Miners had rubber on theirs to prevent sparking.
I was born in 1945, so my memories go a little further back than most!
