LOL...If only I could get there for laundry and cleaning bathrooms!
Re: introducing... drake!
oh man i hear ya on that one... but with my back injury,... i can't do either. so my son is being very helpful with the laundry... and i clean the bathroom on my knees (tub) so i don't hurt it worse. although my back REALLY doesn't like the bathroom being cleaned so it get a little more yuck than usual before i clean it :( oh well... my back is healing... so eventually i'll be able to do it again... (somehow that doesn't make me all that happy LOL)
Re: introducing... drake!
okay so last night as we were getting the new mice enclosures 'cat proofed' kira my cat got into one and grabbed a mouse!
we gave her a chase and got the mouse away from her and since all the snakes just ate on thursday i wasn't sure what to do with it... so i decided since drake was normally fed on saturdays and coming here, he missed his feeding... i'd put the mouse in with him and see if he wanted it.
well he immediately constricted it... and then laid on it watching :relax: the room. the breeder, henry had warned me that he was a little difficult at feeding time and he often left him to be last on the list and so he'd leave the room right afterwards. drake does not like to be watched!!!
so i covered him up with a towel and dimmed the lights - this morning the mouse is gone (unless he's dragged it into a hide and left it there) and he was curled up happily on top of his hide sleeping. i changed his water and left him alone (covered him up half way with the towel again to allow him to stay relaxed).
so... first feed went well :mouse2: and a little more good news. when i go in to change his water... he doesn't hiss at me... just looks at me as if to say, "is it a week yet? can i come out?" - i tell him that no... cassandra won't let him come out to play yet! :P
we are now on day 3 (got him friday and this is monday) and working our way to day 7!!! or is it considered day 4 since he was comfy in his new encl by 2 o'clock?
hmmmmm............ jamie, what do you think (i know what that nasty girl cassandra :spid0r: is going to say... probably something like... you start counting the days at midnight the following day!)
:giggle:
Re: introducing... drake!
and...
i've also decided that having a shallow encl. isn't something i like. i prefer a deep one where i can reach in a do stuff and they can't just slip out the side quite so easy... yes it is harder to keep warm in the winter... but it is warming up here nicely now... spring HAS sprung!
and this way there will be more room for 'stuff' :stereo: :gallery: :pc: :coffeemac :couch: :strong: :teevee: :trophy: :tp: :hokitty: his two hides, larger water dish and a hunk of driftwood for slithering around. so... when should i change his enclosure? wait how long? a month, two or sooner?
and one more question: can i continue to feed him in his encl. i really do prefer it that way rather than taking them out to feed in a sep bin. IF he needs to be fed outside his encl... i will of course. but is he like a ball... if i'm in there all the time doing stuff (water, checking for :pee: feces etc) then he'll be fine with eating in there?
thanks everyone :)
ps i was just re-reading my long thread on dexter (bp) and i sure like keeping everything in one thread... it's so much easier to recap on the info later on.
Re: introducing... drake!
I think it all sounds good to me! 7 days is a general rule but you have to go with what feels right. Hoggies are way less timid than BPs and a couple days less isnt going to make or break things! When I got my Hoggie I think I gave him just a couple days to settle in before feeding and he has been a joy!
Re: introducing... drake!

Im sorry!! I got so confused by all the smilies that I didnt see the questions. :)
Let him get settled in for a while before changing up his enclosure. A few weeks or so. Get him eating and relaxed with you first and then go to it. As far as feeding, I see no reason to feed outside the enclosure..
Re: introducing... drake!
