Denton line longicauda progression

Both my boas are in shed right now and look just like yours. My Argentine Boa in particular was less than thrilled about me checking under her hide. Sounded like I had stuck a nail in a tractor tire hah!

Sassy baby sure wasn't pleased when I disturbed him to humidify his enclosure! At least it's all huff and no bite -- he hasn't tried to tag me since I pulled him out of his shipping box.

Tip for any new keepers reading this: if you keep your snakes in a screen-topped glass enclosure and you're having trouble keeping your humidity up, try mixing in a bit of water to your substrate instead of misting extra. I've found that the gradual evaporation of water from the 1.5-2" of EcoEarth I put down in my 20L does a much better job of maintaining proper humidity level than repeated misting. Just don't add too much water! You don't want a soup -- just add water until the substrate isn't bone dry anymore. If the substrate is too damp, you run the risk of scale rot.

Such a tiny boy! Hard to think he may hit 6' someday.

He ended up doing his business the day after he shed; a warm soak and a little bit of exercise seemed to help things along. He now weighs 64g empty. He's in a much better mood now, especially after another meal.

What a looker! Gotta love the hissers. XD I have a female that would hiss at me every time she saw me, and continue to do so until I left. Now she only hisses at me once in a blue moon while in shed, and has yet to take a swipe at me since the beginning of the time I had her. I just roll my eyes at her.

And yes, dampening EcoEarth is so much more efficient! I figured that out pretty quick; I could spray the bedding till my arms went numb and I still wouldn't make a dent in the humidity. I've mixed in the water since.

I like to call this series "Precious Bean on Various Area Rugs" [emoji14]

It's coming up on three months (!) since Kuzco came home. He's really seemed to open up the past few weeks and isn't as shy and hesitant as he used to be -- he's much more calm, collected, and openly curious now. It feels like he's finally settled in, and that makes me very happy.

I've been thinking of expanding my reptile hoard the past few weeks, and I've consistently reached the conclusion that I'd rather keep pairs of what I already have before branching out into new species. I know a few longicauda breeders now and there are a couple of pairings I'm tentatively keeping an eye on, one of which is happening this season. There's a non-zero chance Kuzco may not be an only longi for much longer -- stay tuned.

Oooh that's interesting, longis are really cool to keep that's for sure, I love my pair there not massive boas either and are more slender than a bci so I think they are really cool. There colour change is also amazing it's like a lucky dip to what you get, with starting off so ordinary looking, looks like the jet black is starting to kick in now, can't wait to see him as an adult

Your little buddy is looking great!! I have never kept a bci or bcc and sort of regret it.. I see yours and other peeps pic and they are beautiful snakes. With these I would like to get them very young.....which would lead to the problem of the snake out living me (probably by many years lol). So i do the second options and admire other peeps pics....:gj: great pics!
