Wild take here but I'm going to take a guess... 1) you didn't take her to a vet because no vet would recommend that. 2) you let it get that bad, and 3) you let it get worse.

Wish all the Snakes & Money you have invested I can’t believe you haven’t found a A+++ Vet. Thank god the swelling went down, but he gave you less advice as some of the keepers on here.... look into a great Retile vet in your State. Best of Luck to Lucy and recovery.
