It's a great educational experience.
A very kind user on here pointed out that every snake is different so there's different ways of approaching issues such as feeding and handling. You just have to find what works best for YOUR snake. I'm still learning how to read Buddy and figure out if he's scared or comfortable, etc.
One thing I will say is that I think colubrids are way more tolerant of handling than BPs. BPs aren't usually aggressive as far as handling goes to my knowledge and I'm working on getting Buddy used to being touched by me, but I don't plan on taking him out and playing with him everyday. The best way to show my love for him is to leave him alone haha
I hope whichever one you pick is a great eater and is the perfect snake for you! :D
Thanks very muck Kath =), that's kind of inspiring :D ! My thoughts are very similar to yours, I'm still deciding but I think I'll go with the bp afterall ! Thank u once more =)

And research includes knowing the temperament and common issues and medical issues (and what usually causes them) of the species as well. Past that, it's just a matter of choosing what you love.
A ball python was my first snake and a dumeril's boa was my third, all within the first 4 months of owning my first snake in my life. Nothing unexpected happened and nothing bad happened, because I did thorough research and I already knew the species (at least on a second-hand level) before I got it.
Yes I completely agree with you even being new to this hobby. I've been doing research on both snakes for over 2 weeks and I'm pretty well informed in my opinion so I hope everything it's allright so I can get sucess on possibly getting and keeping a bp !

Re: Bp or corn snake ?
I vote corn for a starter. Easy to feed, not fusdy, outgoing, smaller mouth in case you have a fear of that first bite. lol

Others have pointed out the pros and cons to both.
However, none of us can actually tell you which is a better snake for you. Only you can decide that. Size(length & width), prey(food item accessibility), long term plans(breeding/collection), morphs, price.

Haha! Oh my gosh I didn't even realize you had posted in this thread too! Thanks again for helping me out with all my questions and helping me with my new owner stress.
Matiasc, I might as well use this as an opportunity to point out this community is amazing at helping new owners with any questions or concerns they may have so definitely feel free to consult the forums. Haha sorry my advice is to ask for advice but it's really helped me out with feeding issues, handling questions, and even new owner freak out moments/existential crisises about snakes. :P

Re: Bp or corn snake ?
I'm new to keeping my BP in fact I am 5 weeks into it and love it, The first thing I done before purchasing my BP is to make sure everyone in my house is fine with him and the next step was to do my home work on looking after him. I always wanted a BP so a corn snake did not enter my thoughts.
From my knowledge BP's are not as fast as corns and maybe better if you have kids that were going to handle it under your supervision, They maybe a bit harder to look after but if you do your homework on how to set up his home and the signs to look out for on his general health they are not to hard to look after. I have so far not had any problems with health, Feeding, tank set up or general problems but tonight is his feed night again so fingers crossed.
As other people have mentioned try to buy from a reptile dealer rather than a pet shop as they should be able to advise you on his needs but only you know what you want.
Good luck.

My first snake as a teen was a corn, but that was 10 years ago and I didn't have access to the same resources as I do now, since I was not yet a member of this forum. She was from a chain pet store and during the 6 months I had her she only ate for me once. She died 6 months after I got her. As far as BP's, I adopted my first two off Craigslist and just bought my 3rd from NW Reptiles, and I love having them. I prefer BP's over corns partially because of the size, as BP's are thicker in the body and feel less frail in my opinion.
