Why is that? What is their reason? Just wondering. I didn't know that BPs are poorly regarded like this.

They're so mainstream, a ton of people are attracted to them. It's arbitrary, but you'll hear boa people and large python people make these statements.
As well as "you haven't really kept a snake until you've had a boa/retic/burm".

Obviously. No matter what hobby you get in, there's always those who feel superior.

Re: wow!!?? (graphic?)
I was on another forum once, and a member was trying to pressure me into getting a boa instead of a ball python, because they are more "fun" and do more. It really comes down to personal preference. I don't think one snake is necessarily better than another, just different snakes are better for different people's preferences in looks, temperament, husbandry, etc. I guess it's like the horse world too, Arabs vs quarter horses.

I'm personally not a fan of ball pythons, but I have nothing against them and I do find them pretty. I don't plan on keeping one, but I'm not marking them off my list.
My only reason for disliking them is because they are so common. Its a bit disappointing going to Repticon (the only expo in my area that I know of) in search of a snake and almost the only thing you can find is some coloration of a ball python.
I have seen many remarks against ball pythons on another snake forum I used to be/kinda still am on. Many people say they are "boring."
As far as the pictures, it was sad when I first viewed it, but then again its the same as feeding a mouse or a rat to a snake. Mice and rats were my pets before I ever considered getting a snake. I adore my mice and rats are pretty nice pets as well, but that doesn't stop me from feeding them to my snake, cat and ferrets. Though I'm a firm believer in providing proper diets for animals, so it irritates me that a ball python would be used to feed a non-snake eating snake.
Also, the pictures don't look photoshopped to me, and I am also very experienced with photoshop.
EDIT: Actually I probably will end up getting at least one ball python. lol I was really tempted to get one at the last Repticon because there were some really cheap normal ball pythons.

It's not just from the burm/boa/big constrictor folks.
I hear it from colubrid, lizard, and venomous people too.
Ball pythons are just seen as over saturated and overrated boring slugs. They are the 'inbred picky eating rocks of the snake world'.
They're not as exciting as other species of snake. And in comparison to other snakes, they lack a personality in general.
Basically the only "big deal" and defining quality about ball pythons is the vast variety of morphs.
I do agree with those statements to some degree, but I still like balls. lol
I honestly didn't realize how true some of those statements were till I started exposing myself to other species.

Much of the animosity comes from ball pythons basically taking over expos and the perceived reptile market. If you want to blame something for your problems, if you want to fling crap and have it land - I reckon you ought to pick a big target - regius keepers are a rather large crowd. I too miss the variety of the old expos but am ashamed at the way people bash something because it's a convenient mark. Breeders getting bent out of shape because everyone wants ball pythons? I don't see how you're losing business if you're not getting a piece of the new pie, your old pie is still here and as tasty as ever. If anything ball pythons are creating sales for other breeders by bringing these new people into the hobby who might later decide to branch out into other species. Then there's the crowd of over compensators who think if your snake isn't big enough to kill a small deer you're not a snake keeper. Should we really care what these type of forward thinkers think of us?
