Follow up:
Well, sadly, I am not home with an awesome fish nose.
Nice story, though.
The guy who has it is a single dad who works machinery at the local landfill. He's kinda a junk hog, but he picks up some really cool stuff. This wound up in a load of junk dumped into the dump 4 years ago. He fished it out, looked up what it was, and took it home. It's been inside up until 3 weeks ago, when he set it out by the door for no particular reason. (I think he was rearranging stuff inside) He really didn't want to sell it, but he didn't know what it was worth, either (It's a 53 inch sawfish nostrum in very good condition, worth at least $1000, if not more.) After I was sure he wouldn't sell it (but he was SUPER nice about it) I told him what it was worth, and then all about the sawfish. He was really curious, and absolutely amazed. I definitely made his day. :o) He's taking it inside, and is going to mount it. I feel good about going back, even if I didn't get to buy it. Him and his son are over the moon, haha. Plus now he knows that if he ever falls on hard times (which is sounds like that might happen with him from time to time) he has something to fall back on.
So, hey, I did my good deed of the day! :D

He is the only show that is on animal planet that I will watch, although he ha caught just about all the real "monsters" so his recent episodes aren't as exciting. Still, his first couple of seasons are on Netflix, and they are sweet!
A little late on this reply, but I actually owned one of those fish. Actually I've owned almost all the fish he's caught on the show lol.
That big guy, in the picture, at the time I owned one, I was like 1 of only 12 or so people in the US that owned one.
Awesome fish

That's awesome!! :D I knew they could be big fish, but not THAT big (that's nearly as tall as I am!! D:)- definitely not something I'd want to see in the wild.
I have such mixed feelings about River Monsters- the guy does catch some huge and crazy looking fish, but it's another one of those SHOCKING shows about DANGEROUS KILLER HUGE FISH. Like, you can talk about how weird and scary looking this fish are, and it'd be totally true!, but without the sensationalism that seems to be fueling Animal Planet these days :(
I miss Jeff Corwin and Steve Irwin's shows watching AP now D: /soapbox
