oh i totally know what you mean marla... the first time i ever heard dave on the radio, i sat back and said "who the hell is this clown trying to sing?"

now, the more and more i listen, and i mean daily, i fall in love even more...

And Smynx, i have something you'd love to hear. Download Dave Matthews Band- Two Step, the Live at the Redrocks version. It's about 13 minutes of straight up jamming, with a very tori-like piano player involved in a great portion of the song. It is truely a masterpiece.

LOL, Will, my reaction isn't quite that strong, but I do find that I have less patience with other adults as I get older and I'm less likely to give friends, entertainers, or whoever the benefit of the doubt and a 3rd or 4th or 5th chance. When it comes to musicians, that basically means there are so many artists I like to listen to, from Zeppelin to Joan Armatrading to Godsmack to Beau Soleil to Beth Orton to The Band, that I just don't see it as worth it to spend a lot of time learning to like another musician anymore if something doesn't grab me. Some, like Mary Prankster, grab me from the first song and I love them. Others I associate with certain people or events, and others I gradually come to like. There are just fewer gradual ones anymore. By the way, I saw a friend last night who I've known since he was 4 -- 18 now -- and he's become quite a good guitarist. If I can work it out I may go watch his gig tonight.

Time for the old fart to chime in here.

I never found much heavy metal, punk, grunge, or rap that I cared for. A lot of the 70's Rock I grew up with didn't do much for me, either.

Earlier today I was listening to a minidisk of 3 CD's worth of classical music on flute. I listen to a lot of Celtic music, especially performed on flute, and I'd have to say my favorite CD in my collection is Joanie Madden's "Songs of the Irish Whistle". I also enjoy traditional Jewish music, and one of my favorite CD's in that genre is Andy Statman's "Songs of Our Fathers", on which all of the music is played on traditional instruments: no synthesizers or electronic instruments.

Hoomi: I would imagine you have very happy reptiles.

And as i said before, we are a very diverse group, musically speaking.
