You can get ones that you can poke your arm or the ball of fatty tissue beneath your thumb on the palm of your hand :) I'm diabetic and had to use these instead of fingertips when I was in hospital because my fingers were so overused there were no more spots to poke haha :)

Fortunately *low* blood sugar isn't nearly as dangerous as high is and I've learned to watch for the symptoms of an impending crash.
While you have to inject insulin, I just have to eat a high protein snack.
