My wife is very supportive, she didn't liked breeding them at first until she saw the money that I made selling the hatchlings in the first year . Now she really like breeding them, not only for the money of course. Last year for our anniversary she bought me a Killerbee, I was so impressed that I had to bought her a lucy female that she wanted so bad and a Supercinnie male that we produced last year, she liked it so much when she saw it crawling out of the egg :O that she decided to keep him, those two are her babies. She also help with the cleaning of the rodents and snakes so I really can't complain, I have one of the best wives in the world.

My fiance wasn't really interested in them for at least a couple years. Once I took him to the Tinley show he got a lot more interested! He still really doesn't do much with the snakes, but he'll help if he has too, lol.

I would imagine that everyones better half on here at least has to be supportive. I mean they dont have to love the snakes but at least be able to pretend theyre listening to us babble on about morphs would be a must lol. Hopefully someday ill find a 0.1 who loves snakes as much as me :D

Re: Supportive better half? Who has it and who doesn't?
Great posts from everyone! I'm amazed and happy with how much support there is in this thread. I expected a few more headstrong other halves :) Thanks for sharing everyone.

All of my local snake buddies wanna trade wives.....lol.....

I'm exactly the same way. I drop my clothes in the garage hamper and run for the shower. As it is I still usually have itching issues on my hands and arms.

Re: Supportive better half? Who has it and who doesn't?
My husband isn't impressed by the snakes at all, but realizes my love for them. I get no help with their care (and don't expect it), but he's incredibly supportive about trips for bedding, rats stored in the freezer, snake paraphernalia everywhere, and all of that good stuff. Never says a negative word. I actually wanted to sell off all my animals before our move, but he convinced me to hang onto at least a few, and I've been grateful he suggested it. I'd be going nuts with no snakes.
Best part - I'm not a typical clothes and jewelry kinda girl. For special occasions, I get to pick out snakes.
I love my guy. :D

Sometimes I wonder if I hit the lottery with my man. He was into reptiles before we got together and owned an iguana and several BPs before we met, but he'd never been part of the reptile scene. He'd just gotten them from petstores and taken care of them at home reading books and such. Now he's got a BP of his own since we've been together, and he's just as excited as I am about the collection and taking care of our animals. He's also very very handy, and is capable of getting the DIY stuff done without me breaking something or doing a bad job :D On top of everything else, he's the most patient, understanding, and funny person I know with a habit of bad time tracking, but it's hardly a deal breaker. Our breeding focus is more of a selective breeding project than it is a business, and we both like the idea of taking things slow, though it's so hard. Going to the reptile shop or any of the shows means we only take enough to get what we need and leave the rest at home in cash. He's also more of a lizard guy (BIG lizards) but loves the snakes, and I'm the crazy snake lady who still loves lizards. I think it strikes a good balance with our combined efforts.
Very cool thread Brian! Love reading all these posts

When I got married, my husband knew I owned snakes but they were 'on loan' to a friend of mine at the time. 2 years later when I finally convinced her to give me my snakes back, the conversation went something like this:
Me: I'm picking up my snakes when we go down for my sister's wedding by the way.
Him: What?! I thought they were staying down there... Forever.
Me: No. I had them before I had you so we're picking them up.
Him: (Not very thrilled) Alright but they are riding in the very back.
To this day he still hasn't touched a snake and doesn't participate in their care in any way, but he did help me lug tanks, shelving, and other supplies upstairs so that the extra bedroom could be my snake room. He allowed me to move the feeders into our main freezer and has stopped jumping when he sees mice thawing in bowls on the counter. While he doesn't like them, he is supportive even if he asks "What did you get this time?" every time I get home from a reptile show. On the flip side, he's big into cards (everything from World of Warcraft to poker) and we agreed that we have room for both our hobbies. Though when he found out I was going to start breeding balls, I had to remind him his cards still take up more space in our house than the snakes, racks, and feeders. He gave in with a chuckle and then asked if he could keep cards in the snake room and use the table to sort stuff for eBay. Of course I said sure. ;)

My wife tolerates my Snakes LOL.. She loves my Normal sort of yet is afraid of my Lesser :D I think that is due to his sisters Hissing at her 2 months ago LMAO
She held my normal this afternoon actually begged me to take him back out just for her !!
I am not allowed to have RATS yet, but ATM I only have 2 snakes hehe wait till I have 15, she doesn't know about that either :O

When I first asked my hubby if I could bring a snake home, his reaction was "Why on earth would you want a snake?? They just lay there."
But being the understanding sort of man he is, he figured he'd better say yes so I'd shut up about it. So Ella followed me home from a local rescue group. Once he saw how interactive she could be, how she'd actually come over to the glass to say hi, he changed his mind.
Now he loves the snakes!! He'll feed them and get someone out and he's always asking questions about them. Neither of us are particularly handy so DIY stuff is iffy sometimes, but he'll always help me problem-solve no matter what the issue is. My Christmas present was a boa and I got another boa for my b'day only 3 months later! I am pretty darn lucky with my man..... ;)
