I'm simply not creative or talented enough. That is why I never said that simply playing guitar makes it good music. I've seen and even been a member of plenty of bad bands. Now if you accomplish the skill it takes to play an instrument and make music people want to hear, THAT, my friend, is a challenge. Throw all that in a live situation and you're in for some fun.
The difference between a remix and a cover is that most cover bands don't claim the music to be their own and make money off the deal. They do it to play the music and get people in the doors to hear their crappy originals. I've been there.
Everything you said in that first paragraph only reinforces my point, that's exactly what i'm saying. "I wouldn't say anyone can pick up a guitar and play." Well I wouldn't say anybody can run a computer program and make music. There are only a very few truly talented electronic producers out there and they are NOT making money off of other people's music. And most artists only make remixes for fun, and some of them happen to get popular. Very few of them are making any money off of them.
Replace the word "real instrument" with "computer program" and what you said is no less true. The REAL electronic artists, don't just get up on stage and press play, they mix the song live using sounds they have created.

yea, but still, you could know NOTHING about musical theory (scales, notes, modes, progressions, etc..) and still be able to make electronic music, and mix music...
I don't know if you see where I'm going here :P

But without music theory it would sound like trash. Most of the good electronic artists know theory. Just because it is on a computer doesn't mean it doesn't follow the same rules and patterns of music everything else does..? Even if they couldn't actually explain theory to somebody they obviously have a grasp on it if they are making good music? I'm can almost positively say that every classic rock artist has not been an expert on music theory, but they are legends are they not? :D
Edit: I know when i toyed around with creating electronic music, i reached into the little music theory i know to create decent sounding stuff. I don't know why it would be different for anybody else. And i know some music theory and i could NOT create good electronic music, i mean it was decent but i'm not making any money off of it. Haha, if it is as easy as you all say it is then why are you not bringing in the BANK making those good electronic tunes?? ;)

Anything but Country, that crap isn't even truly "music". Recycled garbage that all sounds EXACTLY the same. God, I HATE the twang, make it stop!
-
I listen to just about anything, but I'm only going to name one band that few people have heard of... YET... But please, give them a listen, like them on FB, give them a shout out, tell your friends... They're still up and coming, but they're signed with a label and getting good reviews so far...
Red Line Chemistry
A couple videos for the youtubers...
You Don't Get It
Dumb Luck
And something a little different from them, but one of my favorites...
