Just to clarify a few things...

First, this is not a breeder I was buying from. Just a small collection someone had.

Second, I started the thread only because I was frustrated. It's frustrating not being able to get the seller to understand that I'm completely a serious buyer, and that I'm not local so I can't pay cash right now. It was Saturday evening, I was not at home, and didn't get home until midnight. He was going to have sent a Paypal invoice to me so I could pay when I got home. Sorry, I don't have a smart phone. He also, not being a breeder/dealer, couldn't take a credit card.

I'm only frustrated that he never gave me the chance to pay, when it would have been a mere 4 hours to wait. We agreed and had a deal over the phone. Certainly you can't find it that bad of a thing to hold animals for a few hours, right?

I completely agree with not wanting to hold animals for possibly flaky sellers. But don't tell them they have a deal and then sell it to someone else within a couple hours. All he had to do is call me...but that's water under the bridge. Oh well.

Anyway, there was no way for me, at the time, to make any type of cash deposit, or payment. Had there been, I would have, and I would be a happy camper. Oh well, I've just picked up the next deal I found. A 2 year old, 800 gram female pastel for $150. At least that helps my feel goods some... haha

Clark, it's understandable that you're frustrated. Unfortunately this sort of thing happens all of the time. Some buyers are flakes, and as a result some sellers make assumptions. Actually I was in a similar situation where a breeder confused me with someone else. It is a problem that as breeders/sellers we need to correct. Some breeders/sellers already 'get it', but customer service is at least 50% of any business. Those who don't 'get it' are driving their customers away. It not only affects their business, but all of us as a whole.

I hope that I can assure you that there are some good guys in this business. I have found the feedback section on this site, and the BOI on faunaclassifieds.com to be a great help to find the better people to buy from.

If the seller said they would hold the animal for 4 hours then he should have done so. After that time is gone then it's fair game! The seller should not have agreed to those terms if he didn't like them! Best of luck on buying that Pastel!

Yeah, I already bought it. It's mine!!!! Just need to go pick it up soon. And this time it's a definite reputable seller.

Again, I was just frustrated at the broken deal. It's all water under the bridge. A wise friend of mine told me something that rings true still. There will always be another deal come along. I've found that to be true, like the one I'll be picking up soon...

Well from the buyers perspective, I will say that it is frustrating when something you wanted to make a payment on is no longer available. I have even had a snake paid for and the seller "decided not to sell it". It took weeks to get my money back too. But I will also say, that sellers also get multiple emails of interest, respond, and will never hear another word from the interested "buyer". I think common courtesy is to just keep each other informed as well as possible, which shouldn't be too difficult anymore with smart phones and such. If I inquire and decide its not for me, I always notify the seller ASAP and wish them good luck with the sale.

I'm glad you were able to find another deal and purchase an animal that you are happy with.

Just my 2 cents...I have been on both sides of this issue. I have had several people flake out on me (after agreeing to a deal and saying that they were going to have a deposit to me within a few minutes) and I have had several people send money the next day, hour, whatever...as promised. I recently had someone tell me that they were going to paypal me money later that night, but it never arrived and I did not hear from them for several days. When they did email me again, they apologized for their absence, and sent money to my account within the hour. I have bought quite a few animals and other goods that I might not have been able to purchase if the seller had not decided to hold them for me. I work about an hour away from my house and periodically go on the internet, but I refuse to use my paypal account there as our computer guy is awful and there are always viruses going around. I'm sure I could do an immediate credit card payment over the phone (with the bigger businesses), but I've never had to. I've never dealt with a seller that wouldn't at least hold the animal until I got home. I can tell you that I would never never never sell out from under someone (which would make me a flaky seller) if we had made a deal. If we agreed that you would send me some money by X time, then I would hold it until X time, always. I also sell my artwork, some of which are fairly cheap ($50 -$100), but others are much more ($250+) and I have always held up my end of the bargain if a buyer and I made a deal regardless of how much I was going to make.
IMO, the existence of flaky buyers does not make it okay to be a flaky seller.
