I agree when you loan am animal out it becomes their responsibility while it's in their care. If anything should happen they are responsible.

They refused to pay for the vet for him :( The vet said it was because of the bites from the mites. They are "bruises". Ihe is in QT and has been since I got him back. I will never loan him out again. Oh and when I asked they said their girl take. Even though they said on many occasions he locked with her. Thank you all for your help.

I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure they are liable under contract law. I'm sure it'd be a waste of money to hire a lawyer just to foot a vet bill, but unless they tried to get it back and you didn't take it, the blame lies entirely on them. Even if it was a circumstance beyond their control.

Mites is not a circumstance beyond control. Good qt prevents all of that. Their girl may just gave not taken yet. I have a few girls that haven't ovulated yet. But it doesn't mean they won't or even will. I'd keep track of that in case youre owed anything for the studding.

lol I am glad you guys could understand that strange sentence. They said the girl didn't take but they kept talking about her ovulating and them hooking up. I am just fed up with them. I thought they where my friends but after this I wonder. I bet that if their girl did take they wouldn't split the clutch with me. Well I do believe in Karma. Next year my albino girl will be ready for this little boy :)

They are no friends of yours, I'll tell you that much.

That's why I write contracts for any loans. I also have the other party bring the loan here about 4 months before actual cooling. And then I do the caring for and the breeding. I know exactly whats going down then. I would think long and hard about any future loans. I wouldn't consider people that gave my snake mites and lied to me and then refused responsibility "friends". Looks like they took advantage of the situation and infected your snake and possibly your other snakes with a parasite. Screw them.

Lesson learned. Thank you for keeping us up to date. I certainly won't be loaning out my snakes now! I'm glad you know what it is and can rest easier now.

Sorry you had to deal with that! Just a quick idea though, if their snakes were ill with anything the mites could have spread certain illnesses to your snake after feeding on theirs, so I would keep an eye on your snake and watch for any symptoms and keep him quarantined from all your other reptiles. They sound like such shoddy reptile keepers that I would not be surprised if their animals were rife with disease, it would be a shame for something else to get spread to your own collection. Good luck!

Sorry you had to go through that :(.

Can I ask what the verbal terms for the breeding loan you settled on were? If they said they would give you anything from the clutch that is a verbal contract and they need to uphold their end. I would keep on good terms with them until you know for sure their female isn't going to lay. Hopefully you can still end this on a positive note and get something out of it.
