:O There is no excuse for taking such fatal shortcuts.

The seller should have spent the few bucks on the proper packing materials, and ensure the health of the animals and the integrity of their name.

OP, I'm sorry you had an experience like this. Thanks for bringing it up here to open some eyes.

My gosh this is so horrible. :( A free Normal or not, it was a life that was taken due to negligence on his part, and therefore he should do something about it.

I am very sorry for your loss, and I hope your Pin didn't suffer any burns.

This is so sad. :( I feel so sorry for that poor snake.

I do believe the seller owes you some sort of compensation. So what if it was a free snake? Perhaps the fact that you were getting the normal for your GF is what made you decide to purchase from this seller instead of another. Also, we don't know what sort of damage the pin may have suffered. I know on humans, the male reproductive parts are rather susceptible to overheating. What if the pin is now infertile due to this?

I think an info thread on the BOI is a good idea. It is unfortunate that the BOI is something like a shark feeding ground, but I don't think that means the BOI shouldn't be used the way it is intended. And my interpretation of the intent of the BOI is that this is exactly the kind of info that should be shared there. If the seller responds appropriately, making things right with you and fixing his shipping methods, and does not get (or already have) any other negative rep, it shouldn't totally ruin his reputation and force him out of the hobby. I do recommend you wait to post it to give the seller time to respond and fix things with you, so that ALL of that can be in the first post.

They were shipped via FedEx? In order to ship snakes through them, you have to have a waiver on file with them. You have to send in your proper packaging, showing them how you will ship your animals. What I see in those pictures is nowhere near acceptable packaging for those snakes. I bet FedEx would be interested in knowing one of their folks is wiping his hind end with that waiver by shipping that way.

No excuse for that. Period. You have the proper stuff to ship, or you ask the buyer to wait until you can get it.

Some people just don't understand that it's wrong to take such shortcuts. Those shipping boxes, and proper reptile heat packs, are only a few bucks. Is it really worth an animal's life, or possibly your reputation?

Ugh. I hope the pin does well for you.

That guy is an ignorant shipper for blaming the overnight carrier. If he was someone I knew I would smack him upside the head for the unsafe packaging (I don't have to see it after reading this thread), for being heartless and offering you no replacement or compensation.

To my knowledge, no overnight company is responsible for temperatures that the packages travel within. And I can tell you from working at an overnight carrier's processing center, there is NO time to check what boxes say except for delivery address. I remember one box that was perishable and it stayed at the far back of the truck for an early delivery, that is as special as it got.

"Fed ex won't do anything about it anyway. It just makes me sick that even though you put temps on side of boxes they still disregard it. Just let me know how pin does over the next few days."
