I just printed this paragraph out and hung it on my desk at work... couldn't have said it better myself

what ever verbal agreements were made at this point are not in this bill.

    Actually, that's not 100% accurate.

On July 27th, the House Judiciary approved an amendment introduced by Congressman Rooney of Florida to add only Burmese pythons and African rock pythons to the Lacey Act (which would mean no import, export, or movement across state lines). The amendment was approved by voice vote and moved out of committee.

I've yet to find an internet site that has the current amended version of HR 2811 posted, but I can assure you that the amendment stands. A quick call to your representative in Congress will also confirm that fact.

Of course, the house has the option of throwing out the original amendment or adding further amendments to HR 2811 which is very likely at this point. Also, the Senate has it's version to hash out and from what my sources tell me, all options are on the table.

Regardless of whether HR 2811/S 373 is just Burms and Rocks or all pythons, the message from our government is that they believe American pet owners can no longer be trusted and that starting with HR 2811 & S 373, they will see fit to decide what animals should and shouldn't be kept as pets ... I'll leave it to the reader to decide how you feel about that and what you'd like to do going forward.

    Blessings,

yeah because now it only concerns our snakes- the ones a lot of people dont like because they dont understand them. 669 Concerned almost everyone's pets. Lets face it.. every one only cares about themselves

    Except for ants.
Humans have never been anywhere near as special as they are convinced they are, and pretty much nothing we do is unique in type--only in degree. This only makes sense, as we come by our abilities through our genes, which come to us from our predecessors, and are passed liberally around the world through myriad creatures.
There's no single ability we have that no other creature has. We're only unique in the extremes we take some abilities to...just like other creatures.

Studying other creatures objectively is always a humbling experience.

Ok so what I'm gathering is that right now its amended but that could change at the drop of the hat. I'm familiar with how the system works and the bajillion committees a bill has to go through in both houses to become law. I just have a really bad feeling that any plans to breed my boa morphs is about to become illegal...

What about ball pythons? I really can't imagine them banning a legitimately harmless 4ft snake. Oh wait yeah I can...
