I am sure that Jon is a great guy and a fantastic breeder/wholesaler/etc ... but the reality is that I don't even know Jon ... as a matter of fact, until I got an email from Heather a couple of days ago, I had no idea who he was. And to see someone that I don't even know throwing phrases around like "Adam and I" and "US" just makes me a little uncomfortable. To me, real friendship is something that is developed over time.

Not sure what this has to do with you anyway Matt? Do you and I have a problem that you'd like to talk about? My phone is always on.

Sorry I missed this part Jon ... I thought what we talked about on the phone was contributing to the site instead of just posting pics? ... I don't remeber discussing anything about being a "team" ... I just thought that someone with your level of knowledge could bring a lot to the community. I think that the idea of a "team" here might make people that aren't on the "team" feel unimportant or not part of what makes this site so cool ... I think that the staff would agree that EVERYONE here is welcome to help and that no one person or group of people is more important than any other ... I think with a little more time on Bp.Net you'll see that we use the term "US" a lot here, but it meant to mean ALL of the members of the site rather than a group within the group ... it's a great site like that.

Keep on doing your thing though Jon ... I like it ... the morph stuff is awesome! And I know you've got a ton of husbandry experience, so maybe we'll get a chance to see you contribute in those forums a little more too.

I'm saying that if they do, it makes no difference to me ... Anyone that knows me knows that I would actually prefer that people do not ... I am not better than anyone else ... I am not special ... and I am definitely not worthy of being "looked up to" ... I'm just a regular guy with some snakes ... I enjoy sharing the experience that I've been blessed with over the years and sharing that experience with an awesome group of kindred spirits here on ball-pythons.net.

I think there is plenty to look up to in you adam. Quality, passion, service, customer care, Kindness, the whole kit-an-kabootle. I am a guy with some snakes also. But I can see a diffrence, you know WAY more than I do about these animals. There is plenty more reasons why we could look up to you.

Your not better than anyone else, not special, but everyone is worthy of being looked up too! I still consider you a normal person, but i still look up to you. And I really hope it doesn't bother you.

I appreciate the kind words Justin, but I'm really just a normal guy ... I think that there are plenty of people in this world that truely deserve to be looked up to ... police, firemen/women, people of true faith, teachers, loving parents ... I could go on and on ... In the end, there is nothing that I do that someone else couldn't do if they wanted ... nothing that I know that someone else couldn't know ... I am blessed for the opportunities that I have been given and the things that I have accomplished in my life, but I don't deserve anything more than anyone else.

Well since no one jumped , i will...

Quality is color, pattern, feeding, and size...

Meaning a high quality Pastel, should be eating well, of good size for its age (not overfeed) Higher Yellow and either lots of blushing (most lines) or deep black bands (mostly nerd lines)

When I buy snakes, there are two ways that I look at quality ...

First, obviously there is the appearance and traits of the animal itself ... some breeders when they pair animals up, place any two animals together .... usually, with a co-dom mutation like lessers, a male lesser is bred to as many extremely large females as the breeder can find in hopes to produce as many eggs as possible and subsequently, as many lessers as possible. Other breeders, are more selective. The spend painstaking amounts of time looking for the "right" females to pair their lessers up with ... girls with exceptional pattern, girls that have great feeding responses, girls that hold the best gold/yellow colorations into adulthood, and even the calmest most laid back girls ... selective breeding can make the difference between a snake that grows up to be an exceptional animal in both appearance, appetite, and temperament, and just an "ok" animal.

Second, is the way the animal is "programmed" so to speak from birth until it's delivered to a customer ... in my opinion, a "quality" animal is an animal that is fed an appropriately sized meal on a regular and consistent basis, one that is "trained" to know what feeding day is and smells like, one that is handled regularly in an attempt to help it become calm and friendly, and one that has been acclimated to captivity in the same enclosure relatively undisturbed since it’s birth ... putting a little effort into a ball python in it's first few weeks and months can make the difference between a strong, confident animal that will eat anything anytime it's offered and a shy, skittish snake that eats, but not in the strong aggressive way that most people prefer an animal to eat. A great looking snake that is a "awesome deal" might be totally healthy an beautiful, but if it's been passed from breeder to wholesaler to reseller and dragged to 10 different shows and only fed big meals on "non show" weekends to make it appear that it's been eating appropriately sized meals weekly might not be all that great of a deal once you finally get it into your collection ... and sadly in this business what most often happens is that the guy/gal that sold you that snake for a "awesome deal" won't be answering emails or taking your calls when you want to know why it will only eat every other week ... or why it strikes at the side of the cage every time you walk by.

These are living animals and they all have different personalities … there is much more to the “quality” of an animal than how it looks and it’s overall health.
