I got my 2 for 100 bucks for both. It was a resuce situation so the owner was just trying to get rid of them.

My larger one is 4 foot and the smaller one is 3 foot.

I spent 50 on one 3.5 foot male, 40 on a 3 foot female, and 30 on a Pet-co "rescue" (mites, they refused to feed live rodents at petcos, all were beginning to look bad) who is a reduced pattern aswellwildlifewarrior

I paid about 30-40 for mine. He was a baby, maybe 3-4 months old at the time? I got him from a pet store. BAD IDEA!! A few weeks after we got him, I noticed bubbles and gurgling from his mouth and nose. We called the pet shop and they said they were having problems with the breeder that they bought the pythons from. So, we took him to the vet and yeah, he had an RI. He was quickly put on medications that came to around 75 for the initial visit and about 35 for the next three visits he would have to make. The vet gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving. He didn't like the vet visit that much and spit water in defiance when he was put back in his carrying cage. We called the pet store again and they offered to exchange him for a yearling, like he was just another product! We told them no thank you as we had already grown attached to him in the short time we had him. Looks like he had some guardian angels because he pulled thru! This was back in 2003, and when we took him in to the vet again a few months ago, the vet staff were surprised to see that he had made it and had quadrupled in size. So that's my little story on how much I paid for my ball python...

What should i expect to pay for an adult male or female ball python at an expo?

    (normal):snake:
I met a guy who's getting rid of his only snake. A normal adult male for $30
I know its not bad at all of a price but wondering if I would be able to find a better deal at a expo.

My story is pretty similar to this....I paid $65 for Loki, from a Mall pet store, and he was close to three months old, and I'm gonna guess he was probably around 50-70 grams. (he was so tiny!) After a few days, I noticed him blowing bubbles. We rushed to the vet to discover he had an RI. Like you,
the Evil Store offered to replace him for a "better one". I told them I should
go back into the store and buy all the rest, just to rescue the poor snakes from THEM! About three weeks later, he was all better, and he's been the best first snake anyone could ever want. :P

Merlin I got from a "mom and pop" pet shop...I paid $99 to rescue him from a mite and tick infested enclosure. He didn't eat for 6 months, and we had several trips to the vet to get rid of parasites. But he has an iron constitution, and is growing like a weed.
(A year ago he was barely 800 grams! Now he's a whopping 1300!):carrot:

Re: Price you payed for your NORMAL BP...
The very first snake that I paid money for (vs. catching in the woods) was a hatchling female ball python from a pet store and I paid $100. But, she gave me 2 nice 8 egg clutches and I still have 4 of her female offspring...2 of which gave me mojaves last year, and hopefully 2 of which will give me pieds this year (are 50% pos hets). So, even though I know now that I paid way too much for a baby female...was still good money spent. Unfortunately she died while on breeding loan 2 years ago. As for what we sell, we sell our normal males locally for $20 and usually can sell all of them that we hatch out pretty quick. For normal females, they usually go out in group purchases as mentioned by some of you above and are sold fairly cheap as well. So, there's my .02 on that.

Re: Price you payed for your NORMAL BP...
I was very fortunate. My wife has nagged me to buy a snake as a pet FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS!!! In July we went to Visitor's Day at my daughters summer camp. They had a large female BP (she was huge!) and I was allowed to handle this 5ft snake. I fell in love instantly.

Since I knew that I could not house a large snake the BP looked like an ideal solution. I went to all of the "pet stores" and I was amazed about the poor quality of what was available. One had ticks all over it -- I pointed it out to the staff and the care taker was amazed, she did not know that there was a problem -- she did promise to fix it.

Any way I knew that no matter what I bought I would have to take it to vet for a check up. We happen to have a TOP-NOTCH Herp doctor a few miles away from our house. When I told him what I was planning to do, he told me to wait a month and go to the NY Reptile Expo. What a blessing that was. We got Fluffy from a dealer that had kept a card on his hatch and all his feedings.

So many people buy snakes on impulse. A little research will get you a better snake. Rescue is a wonderful thing, but it requires much more skill than the beginner has.

Yeah, but it generally evens out to that price or more, unfortunatly. Also beacuse I live on a military base we have a PO Box and most companies won't ship overnight to there. Honestly I thought I would have ended up paying more, but I found a good local pet store who actually keeps their animals well and with good prices.

I payed 50 bucks for my snake, his tank(with UTH), and hide. The breeder who I bought him from had just sold his store and was moving his stock to the snake-house in his yard and had a whole brood of male normals he didn't need. Apparently, somebody had stolen a bunch of expensive morphs and insurance payed for all of it, allowing him to get the snake house finished. :) He should have a website up soon, he's a great guy.

well if we hadn't been friends for the last 14 yrs. i would have had to pay alot more for my snakes and also i did say i go and help him whenever he needs help because others don't show up to work like they should. So i'm pretty sure with time being payment instead of cash he figured it payed for itself by just the work i've helped him with. so over the last 14 yrs. i think i paid my dues and so does he. imo

I paid 80 bucks for my first normal, which was a christmas present from my wife. She was around 18 inches long I guess(didn't measure her), I did measure here not long after her first shed with us which was in Jan and she was 22 and 3/4 inches long. I mesured her the other day and she is now around 30 inches long. I don't know if I measured her wrong the first time but shes growing like a weed, putting away 3 mice every week. When we took her to the vet for a check up she weighed in at 390 grams.
My second one is a 4 foot normal weighing in at 1500 grams female we paid 50 bucks for her from a local reptile pet store, shes been a dream girl.
My third one is a male with high gold and yellow I got for 45 bucks and he weighs in at 520 grams.

I got 1 free 300g normal female from Jamie Quick when I bought my female pastel and spider male from him. I just bought a 900 gram light/reduced pattern female from Regal Boids for $190 plus an 8 hour round trip drive to pick her up. I got an 800 and two 350-380 gram females for $225 from a local breeder. I'm averaging about $0.15 per gram for normal females. I don't have any normal males.

Depends who it's from, how big and what sex. And whether it's CB or CH or import. I always buy as babies and raise myself so i'm 100% of sex [i pop, not probe] Never paid more than $30 for a normal female. Usually around $5-10. I only buy 2-3 at a time so I can spend time with them, raise them up, then resell or keep. depends. CH feeding i'll mark up to $40 and CB feeding up to $75. [always females, I never buy males for resale, too hard to move] I always buy at shows so I don't have to factor shipping into my costs.
