Not thermometer probe, thermostat probe, the thing that. You prob. dont own a thermostat. check em out here www.spyderrobotics.com

Place the probe directly on the element, if you put it anywhere in your tank, and the waterbowl gets tipped over, you snake is gonnadie a horrible death and your house will catch on fire...

I cant believe to number of people that didnt choose directly on element in the pole.

I did! And yes, go to spyderrobotics.com.

He doesn't make 'em until you order them, and great customer service.

I have Exo-Terra's for temps and humidity and the probes are so small having them come off the glass is never a problem. Mine are placed just slightly above the substrate - where the snakes reside most the time.

i use an 11"x11" UTH like this and i'm not sure how it should be set up. i have a glass tank and currently i just have it sitting underneath the tank since it didn't come with any tape or anything. should i tape it to the bottom of the tank, then tape the probe to the bottom of that?

    Yeah....use foil tape tape

hey, not sure if its been covered but, how about when ur using both a CHE and UTH on the hot side, both plugged into a single herbstat. where would i put the probe then?

Boston - I got it hooked up to a Rheostat that's actually keeping it dialed at the same temp 24/7 until I get my Herpstat. I check it 5 times a day for the last few months and I just use the temp gun to read the UTH itself. Surface substrate temps and I move enough substrate to get the glass above the UTH. Don't know if that makes sense since you've probably never done it that way but it works. Once in awhile when I have him out I'll throw the probe in just to check accuracy. We're all good here :gj:

Is this an exceptable thermostat thingy. I have one of these but I don't know if it's accurate. I have one on the right and one on the way left.

mine are Hot Glued right under the substrate. Because the temp of the UTH isnt as important as that of your cage floor. So if the floor gets to hot than the UTH shuts off. BUT it it is on the UTH itself and the room temp changes than you may not notice the temp in the tank change soon enough. That would be harmful to the snake. So I don't risk it but I still have themometers Hooked up EVERYWHERE...lol I am a little over protective, but it certainly doesn't hurt. PS I only have 3 theremometers...

    Directly on the heat tape.

Where ever you put the probe, be sure it is secure. If its not you can cook your snake.
Use a temp gun and check the floor of the enclosure where the heat source is.

Re: Where do you place your thermostat probe?
We have one digital thermo/hygrometer attached in the center of the aquarium to monitor the ambient air, and we have one thermometer with a probe just under the substrate thats under the hide on the hot side of the tank, to measure that temp.

so i don't make a new thread, i need advice on my set up.

I already had my zoomed uth on the tank before I realized i needed to put my tstat probe directly on it. I really don't want the probe in the tank, so I used alum/taped it to the bottom of the uth. The problem I'm having is that it reads about 4-5 degrees lower on the bottom of the uth that it does inside directly on the glass. Do I just test the temp of the repticarpet over the uth inside the tank with my IR, gun and adjust the thermostat so read 90-92 on to of the repticarpet?

Try and see if you can get the probe in between the glass and the UTH. You may have to peel back a bit of the UTH to do this.
That will be a much more accurate reading. Under the UTH may not be where (I think with Zoomed) the heat emitted.

I don't think so either. The back of it is really cool compared to the sticky side. I'll try and peel it back carefully to get it in there. I've heard they are hard to peel off, and easily damaged.

    Thanks jess

    Hi,

Actually adjust it first of all to the glass beneath the repti-carpet but otherwise you are bang on. I always plan for the worst and asume the snake will burrow at some point. Trying to spot and eliminate possible problems before the snake thinks of them makes things a lot safer in the long run. :)

It doesn't matter what value the thermostat is actually set to as long as it is set to keep the temps spot on in the animals environment. :gj:

So aim to get it no higher than 95 under the carpet and remember when you add hides they trap a little heat so that is where to take the above carpet readings.

Personally I find newspaper easier to clean though.
