Yeah Bro, Kevin looks awesome! He’s much larger than S’ven, my male Bredli, who’s two years older. You know I feed my snakes pretty liberally so he’s definitely not starvin. It just shows the diversity of the species.

    Yes,

That's for sure Zig, I fed my retic very lightly and he just grew and grew. So much for the high percentage SD X Dwarf blood with very little mainland and being a male to boot. Had he not been a complete jackass I'd have probably not minded his end size but that experience is in the never again category.

I'm not so sure your Bredli is done growing.

I'm wondering if you let him ride without food for a few months over the winter if his energy will re-channel into growth.

    Thank you.

Is this the same Bill S from Reptile Insider?

If so, it has been years.

    Size
It has been my experience with 2 of my the carpets, the late Jewel, and Kevin, shown here, that growth seems to come a bit later in life.

Kevin is a September 2017 Bredli. He'll be 5 years old this fall and his length and weight are increasing a lot. I'm actually blown away by the density. He is starting to rival my almost 10 year old boa constrictor. I didn't expect that.

I wanted to get some pictures of his length for folks that follow this thread. He's on a 10-12 foot span here. He's certainly not as long as Jewel was before she passed but Jewel grew a lot after she was 5 years old.

I think Kevin may actually hit 8 feet in the next couple of years.

    That's it for now.

His build reminds me of my 7' male yellow-mix rat snakes- (they're about 14 years old now). Kevin's a beauty- & I agree, many snakes take a while to really "body-build"- that's why I've always favored not breeding females until they're at least 4+ years old too, so they have the best size to handle it.

    Five Years Old
The boy hit the 5 year mark September 15.

This is a decent sized, male Bredli. He's getting close to the 6 foot mark and in true Bredli fashion he is dense. The weight of this snake compared to my late, 8 foot plus, female coastal is surprising. He is heavier than she was.

I'm pleased with his coloring. I tend to like the "Mother Nature" or natural coloring and pattern. Kevin is 50% hypo and he does have some other stuff in the mix but I'd say he looks like a really nice normal when it comes down to it.

The Bredli head is probably my favorite trait of the species.

I'll be curious to see if he hits another growth spurt next spring. He's likely eating one more meal this year and then he'll cool down a bit and chill until March 2023.

He's gorgeous! You have much to be proud of- he looks so healthy & vibrant. Glad I'm not the only one that prefers snake's in "natural coloring & pattern".

    Not The Typical Photo Set
April is almost over and unfortunately the weather here hasn't been warm enough for the snakes.

I snapped some spring photos of Kevin watching TV with me. These are a bit unusual as far as the pictures I usually take.

Kevin is a 2017 Morelia Bredli.

He's pretty well behaved. We went through a short bout of grumpy behavior a year or two back. I don't have him out often, but he's been great since then.

This fella may end up on rabbits soon. He's got the size and is still growing as he approaches 6 years old.

    I'll get him outdoors soon.

    Switching gears.

Kev has had his 3rd meal of the year. Each snake here is fed infrequently, however I have continued to increase prey size as they age.

Last night he took his first jumbo rat. I will not feed the jumbos to the boa. I will to the Bredli and eventually the Brissy. I'll finish the few that I have left here and switch to rabbits. Rabbits are better all around. Quail will always be on the menu.

Here's the boy in low light having a whack at his jumbo. I was surprised how fast he took it down. That's carpets for you.

ALL carpets are more than capable of taking very large meals. The doesn't necessarily mean you should push them. I do believe they will develop and grow differently when have variety of different prey sizes and selections.

The head shape/size changes from what I have observed here.

This summer will be interesting. Once fall comes around, feeding stops until spring for everyone except the Royal.

    WOW,

    Thanks!

That is an I-Phone 14 Pro Max. I shined a little flashlight on the last two pictures.

It was a fun night vision picture session.

I really should use my real camera but the ease of the phone cam is just,,, well,,,, too easy.

The last two were my favorite. They look all junglely…with sunshine barely peeking through.

The latest cage photo of this heavyweight.

Kevin is a September 2017 animal.

He is pretty comparable to the boa constrictor I have here at least when it comes to weight.

My experience has been that the Bredli are quite dense for their length.

The photo was shot in low light. He doesn't look too colorful here. I will have to get him on the deck rail for the next session.

Too big for me to want one for myself, but that won't stop me from admiring yours. I'm looking forward to the deck pictures, assuming the railing's been refinished ;).

    Just for you LOL!
The rail is stripping away from heat and weather related causes. I may not have to do more than power wash.

Kev is about the same size as the boa constrictor. He could take the top spot although the boa continues to put on noticeable length.

The thickness is evident in this picture.

The next photos show his length.

He sure looks like he'd be fun to handle. Would you describe him as grippy?

What a stud! That’s what a Bredli should look like!! That’s what I was expecting when I got mine. He’s a 2015 Bredli that’s half Kevin’s size in girth and about 5.5 feet long. He’s a mouser that’s just started eating large hamsters. I’d be surprised if he weighs 2kg. My jungle, on the other hand, is the same age and is about Kevin’s size.

    Not grippy at all.
Neither this guy or the Brissy are grippy and my previous coastal RIP wasn’t either.

I unfortunately have not handled my newer carpets as much as I should have.

Brissy is defensive and will bite. She’s very twitchy.

Bredli is OK but not bomb proof.

Zig, this guy was pretty small when I got him from Nick but I just fed him larger prey more frequently early on.

Now he eats monthly and gets a variety of prey and prey sizes.

My carpets seem to grow later in life. Even my boa seems to have leaned out but grown longer.

I’ll get the Brissy out next.

I do love the Bredli. They so easy and forgiving of any mistakes plus they are solid.

THANKS TO ALL for the kind words ❤️
