This could sound very wrong, i'm not sure. Guess we'll see. But if the ball python was dead, and the burm willingly struck and ate the bp, i'm kind of fine with this. The ball python might have died of age or something, and the owner didn't want to see the body, and energy, go to waste so they tried to feed it to the burm. The only thing burms in captivity can really eat are rabbits. It's a vary in the diet... The way i word it sounds kind of bad, but do you know what i mean?

Now if the ball python was alive, well then that's a different story...:colbert:

I agree completely with this. As long as the animal is dead and safe to consume, it doesn't hurt to let the meat go to waste and feed to another animal. This assumes that that animal won't start preferring that item. As long as it's dead to each their own. For me personally I don't do that.

I can't fully explain this, and I know it happens in nature, but the idea of a snake eating another snake really grosses me out. I am not using that as an argument for or against anything, I just wonder if this is something I am alone on. Most likely lolz

I like some of the extremes that this conversation has been swayed towards. Human cannibalism? If it comes down to my family surviving or not I will gladly eat my neighbors LOL A little basil and they should taste fine.

I don't know what else to say besides wow. I have so many questions about this! To me, the saddest part is that it looks to be happening inside of a house and people are around and stuff but didn't do anything to stop this from happening??

Sorry if there is a better place to post this, i just didn't exactly know where.

i'm at a loss for words!

Snakes eat snakes all the time. Even pythons will eat each other under the correct circumstances.

I would start a petition to overturn your conviction, make t shirts that say "Free ZacharyPoller" while picketing the jail with a sign that says "If You've Seen this {picture}, You Must Acquit!"

Hopefully the people who keep rats as pets are not also allowed to run rampant and do things to us they could go to jail for.

I think most of us can agree that these are disturbing pictures, especially when posted on a forum devoted to keeping ball pythons as pets Can we please just let this thread die now?

I agree. [Stuff] happens and there isn't much we can do about it. Ignorance is bliss to we mine as well channel it out.

I don't know. It's a pretty instinctual and unavoidable reaction for most people to get disgusted when animal species they are personal with are killed or eaten, and you hear about it with cats and dogs. It's just the way human nature evolved. So it's pretty obvious that users on here would end up butthurt after seeing these pics, as MarkS pointed out, since this is a forum about keeping ball pythons.
But I'll agree that it's just not something worth getting riled up over, because it's not like they can do anything beyond crying about it. It's just something people need to suck up and move along. Things like this are not unusual on this planet- imagine all the things that happen and were never caught on camera.

Personally, I think this thread should just be closed and pics edited out. It's entirely pointless to post these pics on this forum, especially if it's only going to offend the more sensitive people on here.

This is also in the same vein as the thread some woman posted about a restaurant serving ball python sausage.

    I'd definitely try it.

I know it's nature and all but u shouldent put a burm with a ball. That's just asking for trouble and poor care.

in my opinion this is just a half way decent photoshop, and i don't have anything to prove that i just agree with others when they say there's no way the ball didn't fight back. granted it out have lost but clearly its alive in the pictures and would still be fighting for its life. just my opinion, i'm aware snakes do eat other snakes but i imagine it would be a much more violent ordeal between the 2 snakes.

Don't be so distrustful - it happens though thankfully it is rare.

There are pictures of ball python cannibalism that predate photoshop for a start. :P

I think it's real, but I also think it's a staged photo intentionally set up by some sicko. You can pretty much get a burm to swallow anything that smells like food. It's interesting that the ball python wasn't constricted.

I'm not sure I believe that.

The problem is that statement is that the snakes are uncaged, in a place where people have taken then both out, and taken pictures of the process; meaning they took out the snakes and instead of doing anything they say there and took pics instead. I feel like the situation you described would instead be pictures of the berm after it ate the Python, I thier cage.

I feel like in the first picture, pulling that ball python out could have been an option.

I found the original post these are from one time, on someone's blog, and they had little explanation.

I personally don't mind snakes being used as feeders. Most are f/t anyway. Its no different from us feeding off rats. And some species of snakes, like King Cobras, have to eat other snakes to thrive. Though I do acknowledge that Burms aren't snake eaters.

However, this picture, whether real or fake, was clearly done out of spite. I don't know how many of you are outside the ball community, but not very many people who keep other species like ball pythons. And whenever I do see a feeder ball picture, tons of people seem to be 'happy' and say dumb stuff like 'finally a purpose for a useless ball'.
No respect what so ever. I appreciate and respect my feeder rats for keeping my snakes healthy and alive. I think feeder snakes should be given the same respect.

I guess it could be dead. The mouth opening could be a result of the way it's being squeezed.

But my question...I've noticed what you said to be true. Why do many other python keepers hate balls?

I don't have snakes that eat other snakes, but I've seen it, and the snake being eaten, if it's alive, does not normally just straighten himself out so the bigger snake can consume him easily, especially if the bigger snake is starting from the tail (which is odd from what little I've seen).

But my experience with that is limited so maybe it's more normal than I've seen.

Probably a derail of the original topic but... honestly I've noticed this as well and I'm pretty new to the hobby. I first fell in love with balls YEARS ago, back when all you could find in petco were normal for $80 - $100 bucks... no one seemed to hate them much then. I honestly feel like these are what I've come to term Herpsters: Herp Hipsters. Some of these people who used to keep balls are mad they got popular and that the market got flooded with new keepers and breeders in what used to be a pretty lucrative and exclusive market. Others picked up on their new snobby attitude and just parroted it.

i got into ball pythons for several reasons:

    they're docile
    don't get too big
damn near infinite variety of colors & patterns

also, a lot of other snake species faces do not look nearly as aesthetically pleasing to me

while other ppl may prefer a different species of snake (or reptile), i don't see how anyone could hate BPs

Staged, shopped, or not, someone has some serious issues if they think this is a "funny" thing to do to a snake.
