I THINK he's saying that the quality of the sire and dam of the pastel will influence how it will look as it matures.

You can go to my site and click on The Nest to see just how bright my lemons are, the first picture in the pastel section is my 3 year old male. If someone appreciates a pastel produced through selective breeding rather than one produced by throwing the sire at any old normal, I have no doubt they'll sell.

Well, if you're talking about truly exceptional animals which are very rare, then a couple of hundred or even more wouldn't be out of the question, but for something that is merely good or high quality $125.00 or 'maybe' $150.00 at the most. Most of your average pastels might be around $100.00 or a bit less, and the real dogs would be at $75.00 and going down from there. (all personal opinion)

But then again, the whole opinion thing comes into play some more when choosing traits, something I might consider a dog might be average or better for you. Something I might consider high quality might make you scratch your head and wonder at my sanity. There are so many variables in play, who determines which traits are best? Do you like a very light butter yellow or a bolder lemon yellow? Do you like more blushing or better definition and contrast? Do you like an interesting busy jungley pattern or more of a reduced pattern? None of these are either 'right' or 'wrong' but all just personal preference, and the breeder will price them according to their preferences.
