Night Time Shooting

Please note, these are old.

Eh, I like this picture, but it was very difficult to do. I was using one of the original digital cameras (it was a brick!) and working very hard to hold the camera steady and it still turned blurry.
Oh well. I like it anyway.

I'll have to try some different iso settings- I usually go for aperture priority. And these I could have done less during post processing too, I was very new to the camera & photography in general.

That one of the tree reminded me of this one - no post-processing other than the crop and re-size, just a minute-long exposure with some funky light in the background...

Thanks! That there is a one in (literally) a hundred crappy shots.

Summer of 08 we got a lot of gorgeous thunderstorms here. The only thing preventing me from taking killer photos was wind and rain. I got a lot of pictures of piddly strikes, but that one was definitely the best, even if it just a tad over exposed.

This is the clearest strike we got, but very small.

Alright, here we go. Hopefully the links come through. I'm not attaching any because the full size versions are 10MP as well as high quality. For a given picture (once you click the thumbnail), the little icon with a small and larger square gets you the full size. The little camera icon will show the EXIF data.

What I found interesting in both situations is that high ISO wasn't needed. And especially in the case of lightning, could work heavily against you. The hardest aspect to me is nailing the focus. I'd dial in my other settings and go for the most distant light I could get. The camera allows me to live view and then zoom in 10x, at which point I'm able to fine tune the focus. I still haven't learned my lesson and gotten some gaffing tape to HOLD it there though... I suppose a few more knocks when things are really going crazy will teach me.
