Re: blazing red belly???
Have you tried to soak this animal in tepid water?
Looks like it could be from a STRAIGHT IODINE bath.

That actually makes a lot of sense. :gj:

Re: blazing red belly???
first off, why would people put baby bp's in iodine? has anyone ever done that? does it stain them red? its not like he had the red bellies separated out and was trying to sell them for more or something, or try to pull one over on me or anything like that. It was actually my boyfriend who noticed one of them with a red belly and said hey... you should get that. There were 200 baby BP's and we had to dig through them looking at bellies. They were all treated the same, and they all cost the same regardless of pattern... $25. I think the only thing that will tell us what's going on is time. If a shed makes it go away... then it does! Which, I am sure will happen, because that's how ball pythons roll :8:

Re: blazing red belly???
Unfortunately, there is no limit as to what some people will do. Maybe the person you got them from was just flipping them and had not had them for more than a couple of days? People really have in the past done the whole Kool Aid dip to sell things as being something new and pricey. It would be great if it kept the coloring, but i'm glad to see that you are aware that it may shed away. Good luck!

Re: blazing red belly???
I have soaked snakes in an iodine solution (that was about the color of weak iced tea) per the recommendation from a fellow herper to help when I had a mite outbreak on a couple of my snakes. Was told it helped to kill the mites on the snake, as well as helping to heal the bites. Perhaps he/she was put in iodine for the same reason - to remove parasites? The solution I used did not stain my snakes though, as one of them was my albino boa and he stayed the same pinkish/yellow color.

Re: blazing red belly???
Yea, I know that some people will do anything for a buck, and I was well aware at the time of buying these snakes that they will probably lose this color, but I thought it was a really neat thing to see, and I would love to hold a pair back even if they turn white, and breed those and see that, if this coloration is not man made, if it's reproducible in any way. Even so, they have really great color's patterns. I have three with reddish bellies that fed this morning, and he gave me one for free that was a non feeder and he's a no-go so far. I also have two others that I selected for other traits that I loved.

Very interesting animal none the less.
I would love to hear how she develops and grows.
Hopefully its something new and not one of the Kool Aid type tricks.
Congrats on the new pick up:gj:

Re: blazing red belly???
It looks like the belly is from being on newspaper that got wet.
If a ball gets out of its water bowl or spills its water and then sits on newspaper the soy in the paper terns the belly pink/red.
We see it happen when babies are first soaked and then put in a tub on paper while they are being sorted, you will always get a couple that get pink bellies. We have had about 6500 baby balls in the last 3-4 years and have had about 20 with the pink/red bellies and they always shed out.
It can also happen when a larger snake urinates in a bag with newspaper in the bag.
Its always a surprise to see, but will always shed out too.
On the non feeder we always have really good luck offering them smaller fuzzy mice in a dark shoe box. If that does not work try it in a shoe box inside a blanket box, as it will creat a environment with a high ambient temp without the same affect as heat tape. The difference in the types of heat really seem to kick them into gear, and usually turn most non feeders around.
Good luck.
