Baby herps eat like crazy in the first year or two. I've raised enough of them to know this. So do most animals, for that matter. Like I said, I only feed them for the first year like this, and not all of them are so enthusiastic. I had a Eunectes murinus that didn't eat for the first five months I had her, but once she started: ooooh baby!

Don't want to turn this into a "feeding schedule" thread.

you seem not to care, it seems like you "want them big", now...
not really a experienced, knowledgeable, responsible, owner would do.
im just stating that you are killing your snakes, and excessive feeding is one of the easiest ways to kill a snakes.

You are making a lot of assumptions, there chump.

You don't know me or my experience or my attitude towards my animals. I've been doing this for over 30 years and only once had an animal die on me prematurely. It was due to fat around the heart, diet related yes but not due to overfeeding. In fact in those days I was underfeeding.

You are obviously of the "newer" breed of owner. Probably keep all your snakes in tubs. Don't talk to me about "caring" about my animals.

i am 18 years old, and keepins reptiles for 6.

YES i do keep some of my snakes in my rack, like my balls and baby retics, and conda.
but that has nothing to do with overfeeding.

just because your older, doesnt make you better.

if anything,i am slightly under or maintence feeding the anaconda,to keep her grow slow and steady,would rather her grow a little slower,but healthier,i push my ball pythons,but they have ways fo evening themselves out,condas dont care,and will eat themselves into a mess

Go read? I started writing articles for society publications when you were 4 years old. I've raised an iguana that hatched before you were born and is still alive at a friend's house.

Experience counts I'm afraid, and you have very little. Six years may seem like a lot but we're talking reptiles here. You haven't lived through the lifespan of one yet... You can't believe everything you read/hear. You have to live through it.

A lot of breeders say "don't raise 'em up too quick" only because they don't want you cutting into their market...

Guys...there's really no reason to fight over this. Mumps feeds his 'conda more than Fiend would. So what? No two people ever do everything exactly the same...raising these animals is not an exact science. Fiend believes overfeeding can cause an early death. Point made. Mumps believes it will not. Yes, definately no reason to fight. You can feed a snake every 3 days(if you have no intention on holding it) for it to grow to a good size in the first year, downfalls of doing this is, it will probably be ill tempered due to not being handled. If you do this feeding you have to back off it after a year and feed regular.

I feed my snake every 5-7 days, depending on a few different conditions. My yellow is about 2 1/2-3ft maybe a bit longer, and shes about 8 months old.

If you were to feed a snake every 3 days for 2-3 years, it would lead to the snakes death.

I fed my yellow often for the first year only, remember there were breaks for the shedding cycles.

She's now eating about every 2 - 3 weeks.

Ill tempered? My pic proves she is as calm as they come.
