    I have found that malnourished snakes tend to have darker colors as well. SOme of the Balls I've rescued were extremely dark when I got them home, but once they fattened up and got some attention, their skins seemed to lighten up a bit...some more than others. Don't know if that holds any water with your Boa though or not....
