Re: BoaBarn Feedback
I have a Mojave that ravenously ate f/t thawed rats for 2 years and then went on a 2 month hunger strike. When it started eating again, it will only eat live mice. Won't eat a live rat and won't eat f/t anything. I am not happy about that but have no explanation.

its not that it only eats mice that i couldnt blame him as some can and do switch but this snake still to this day will only eat every 2 weeks if im lucky.
So you'll never do business with him again, and yet you never gave him the opportunity to help you out and come up with a solution (be it replacing the animal, or allowing you to return the animal for a full refund)?
How can a seller address your concerns, when he was never even told that you weren't satisfied? And then be painted as a bad guy? He's supposed to telepathically know you had a problem?
I've got a male het pied from someone who he ate for every single week before he was shipped to me. I've got the feeding records.
He eats once a month or once every two months if I'm lucky. They all tend to pound food as hatchlings, then something, be it a change in environment, etc just torques them, and it throws them off. I don't blame the seller that my het pied is a poor feeder - it's just that snake and is no reflection on the quality of the other animals I've received from the same seller. And I've got some more animals coming in from them.
I've never complained to this seller about this male either - I know that he's housed properly and I know that each animal is unique.
Sorry you felt that you were "had" by the Boa Barn, but I don't see any evidence that supports that claim. Especially in light of them not even being told you had an issue with them.
And just an Edit - I just googled "Boa Barn" and this link was the very first return from the search: http://www.screameleons.com/desktopd...ias=theboabarn

Have you met a ball python before? They go off feed, that's a common thing that they do, especially as they reach that magic weight of 1000 grams. (not saying yours is 1000 grams, just stating an observation)
I strongly believe that it is not the breeders fault for an animal to go off feed when in anothers collection for any length of time.
Breeders do not train their animals to eat, they offer food to them regularly and the snake chooses to eat or not. If the animal is sick, they make them better (at least they should) before they sell. They represent the animals truthfully and to the best of their knowledge.
Even Tracy and Dave Barker of VPI state in their Ball Python book that NO breeder can guarantee that an animal will eat once it is in a new collection. I also feel that it is impossible to guarantee that because the breeder has no control over the animal once it leaves their collection; however I do believe it is the breeders responsibility to let the buyer know if the animal eats regularly or not while in their own collection.
If you feel that this guy was dishonest, you really should talk with them first before flaming them in a forum, where the breeder doesn't know you are making a public grievance against them that you never sought to make right.

I agree 100%.
