In all fairness both shows are for entertainment. They wouldn't be made and aired if they weren't for the networks to make a profit.

I happen to like survivorman more than man vs wild - simply because I think bear grylls is an idiot and I can't stand the way he says some words.

However, they are both just tv shows. I've seen survivor man kill rattle snakes and other predators on his show too. And he doesn't have a camera crew but he can call in his crew to come get him if he thinks he can't go any further - so he doesn't really need to kill to survive either.

    Excellent point.

I don't watch either one. I loathe TV.

I think I am always amazed when it comes out that a *reality* show (reality does not exist once you add a camera) is bogus.

TV lies. That is its job. Ads are lies, and shows are simply vehicles for ad placement and nothing more.

Bruce <--- who even thought Crocodile Hunter was a nonsensical snooze-fest.

Survival 101.

I hear ya. I used to watch both. My friends and I turned MvW into a drinking game. Every time he did something that would likely get him killed if he did not have stunt coordinators, safety experts, etc, we would drink. Every time he gave good advice we would well drink. We kept a tally.

I am no survival expert, but I do fancy myself a woodsman, and have done some survival stuff in the Corps. I enjoy practicing the primitive skills and passing that along to my children. But anyway. The ratio of stupid stuff to good advice was about ten to one, and that is being generous.

Things got a little better after Eddy was outed for staying in hotels, and having live animals brought on location when they couldn't find any wild ones. They added a disclaimer, and he talks about his crew. But that does not help the twelve year olds that watch and think it is sound advise.

But I guess that is just natural selection taking out those who get their advise from a TV show and do not fact check it.

    Anyway. End rant.

Any bets on if the Boa was actually a wild one, or one that they brought out on location?

My problem, and I know I am somewhat alone on this, is not him killing when he does not absolutely have to. Nor do I hold that against Les. But you can guess what my problem is.

No he can't.. from what I understand he doesn't carry a sat. phone.

He didn't come out of..somewhere.. I forget.. earlier this year on the date he was supposed to, and they sent in rescue teams to find him, because they had no idea where he was.

He has one of those devices that sends out a distress signal. It can be pinpointed by GPS.

They're for sale in the camping stores.

It can still take hours or days for people to come get him.

    Ah that makes sense :D

It would be kind of silly to truly risk your life without that kind of easy-to-get backup plan just for a TV show.

Depending on how many sats it picks up due to conditions, you may only get a four digit grid. But yes, towards the end of the series he did carry one.

Integrity is a big thing for some of us. Some people also see what that channel is doing now just reflects the degradation of much of society.

On the main page of Disco it used to read. "Your number one source for educational nonfiction TV." Now they seem to cater to the ADD kids. But there are a few shows that still have some educational value.

Much of what they have on now is neither nonfiction, nor educational.

Yeah, you are probably going to read too much into my post.
