Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?
1st year was 2, 2nd year was 1, 3rd year was 12, 4th year was 9 and I've been keeping it between 12-14 ever since. There comes a point where you have to decide if you want to make this your job or keep it as a hobby. A dozen or so years ago I was breeding a lot of cornsnakes and started producing many many hundreds of them in a year. Taking care of 5-6 hundred baby snakes at the same time is really a lot of work and it was almost enough to make me want to get out of the hobby entirely. I scaled way back and now produce fewer then 200 baby snakes (pythons and colubrids combined) in a year and that keeps me pretty busy without becoming overwhelmed. Maybe when I retire from my day job I'll be able to expand again, but right now I'd really like to keep it as a hobby.

Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?
This is my first year, and I'm working on 3 pairings. Het gen stripe x normal, orange ghost x normal, and pastel x normal. I've already seen a few locks, and have my fingers crossed and that incubator humming!
Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?
I voted 3, but if you want to get really technical, it was 5 (two were breeder loans).
What "I" bred were:
Lemon pastel x normal
Lemon pastel x normal
100% Het Clown x normal
My loans were:
My dinker male x normal
Spider x my normal
This year I'm "planning" for six clutches, but I've got some girls I wasn't going to put into rotation that I'm re-thinking that may bring me up to eight. That's a good number for me in the sized apartment that I'm in for now.
This season is lemon pastel, mojave, Jolliff Tiger, possible het clowns and YB's.
Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?
Our first year was 11 clutches. We produced some Hypos, some Albinos, VPI Axanthics and Pastels. The second year we did 21 and last year we had 45 clutches. My original goal was to double every year, however, I think I would run out of hours in the day if I had 90 clutches this year. I am shooting for about 60 clutches this year, and I think that may be the maximum amount I can handle, and still work my day job.
Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?
in about a year i hope to have some pastel to pastel breeding going on, and pastel to normal. and have some '10 babies.
Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?

Re: How many clutches did you get in your first year breeding?
Next season I am hoping for about 4 or 5 clutches.
It will be my first season.
Pastel X Pastel
Pastel X YB
Pastel X Spider
Pastel X Hypo
Pastel X Lesser
Any one see a trend here.... I like Yellow snakes.
We will see what my wife and wallet has to say.

One good point here with regards to the ladies who did not produce eggs in 2008..........they will be good to go for 2009. ;)
Expect to breed 4 females this year to offer:
Albino
100% het. Albino
Pied
100% het. Pied
100% het. T+ Albino
Will give the '08 Mother a rest this Season.
