I sometimes get those greyed dots, and it's always from someone that had just joined or doesnt post very often like Robin said. Anyone can give reps. :)

I got negative rep points and was bashed for a post in the classified section...

By some signed up as testaccount...Wonder who that is

All neg reps that were given BEFORE we made them show who there were from defaulted to "testaccount". Any "zero-point" (from a new user) neg reps (because they can't count as neg) will show "testaccount".

All neg reps given NOW do show who left them.

I had another thought on the rep points vs thanks question, which goes along with what ADEE says here.

When you get a rep point, you can always quickly and easily go to your User CP page, and see who gave it to you, and it even has a link to the post that was rep'd.

When you get a thanks, the only way to find out any of this info is to go through all of your old posts and check the bottom of each one.

Like ADEE, I really liked reading the rep point comments. But even more than that, I thought it was valuable to know which of my posts were receiving rep. I'd like to be able to (easily) figure that out with thanks too.

Is there anyway to see a list of which of your posts have received thanks similar to the list of where the rep points came from? If not currently, is that something that can be added?

    For you:

It's in the Statistics section of your user profile.

I clicked on that link and it told me "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

However, I did find it in the statistics section of the user profile.

    Thanks for pointing that out!
