What Kara told me to do was to give them a good poke with something dull and also to put my nose right down to the egg and sniff for the sweet smell of decomp. Also look at what veins you can see. Are they still red and vital looking or have they degraded, gone dark or not right looking. I did that, never smelled anything, veins looked right and I seemed to get some responsive small movements, though on a couple really not much.

They all did come out and all are okay. I hope that's the situation with you too hon. Please keep us up-to-date and know that we are all hoping so much that things work out okay for these hatchlings.

They don't actually smell bad to me, and the last I remember were that the veins were still red. I didn't get the best look at them this morning b.c I had to leave for work. My husband is the one that did the poking and is convincing me they didn't make it.

    Wow! Thanks Larry!

So do you then not suggest I remove them from the eggs tonight?

Sometimes men aren't so good at the poking. :D

Like I told MeMe in PM, Susan, I seriously thought mine were gone until I talked to Kara (and what a sweetie to deal with me blubbering on the phone). After I did the harder poke, the sniff and checking the veins like she told me too, I felt much better. It was about a week later they actually came out but then I'd cut them a full week earlier than I intended to.

Susan, I hope that those three babies are okay. Sending good vibes your way. Congrats on the other hatchlings though, that is something good.

I hope they are alive and okay. At this point tho you may want to intervieve and help them out a bit and make sure that they can infact get out. Wishing you the best!!!

The only thing is with the one with the possible deformed tail, he really poked at it, and moved it around in the egg and it (the tail) just kinda flopped around (for lack of better words) as if it wasn't alive. After that I couldn't watch him poke the others.

Sorry to hear about those. My last pastel that came out yesterday did the same thing for me a few days ago. I cut the eggs and all of them were moving, but the next day one of the pastels wouldn't move when poked, and I could only see it's belly. I thought it had died, but I left it alone and when I checked yesterday the other three had hatched and the last one had it's head poking out. Maybe they just need a little more time.
