Re: Smokey peaced out today...
I was thinking using pvc pipe and rope and making a snare, but 20+' is pretty deep and the pipe may be flimsy and hard to maneuver :(
Is there only one way in and one way out? Left over fireworks and scare it out?
Good Luck!~ :please:

Re: Smokey peaced out today...
I completely understand. My neighbors haven't even moved in but they dropped off their dogs, which apparently HATE cats. My one cat has disappeared, and I found the other inside my fenced in yard, up the stairs on my deck in the mouth of one of these dogs. She fell about 2 stories and took off into the woods. I was out late at night with a flashlight until I found her. I find out later, these same dogs chased the little girl across the street, and the owners have no intention of keeping these dogs fenced in. I'm not too happy needless to say.
I'm hoping they just chased off my other kitty, and he got lost but has found a new home. :tears:

Re: Smokey peaced out today...
I had a cat that liked to escape every once in a while. We used to scoop her with the landing net. She hated it but it does the trick if you can get a long enough handle on one. Hope you get her! Good luck!

Re: Smokey peaced out today...
Is there a local SPCA in your area? Or something like it? I've seen on Animal Cops and other shows like that, families call them for help getting their pets out of tricky situations like that.
This winter (while it was -10 and windy) my cat, Gypsy got outside for the first time and I haven't seen her since. I don't have very high hopes that she survived a WI winter on her own...

I second the net idea.
That and a long pole with a wood or cardboard square attached to the end, to "push" the kitty towards the person with the net.
You could even block off the under edges of the deck with cardboard to make one route of escape from the evil pole and board. :D

Re: Smokey peaced out today...
Is Smokey fixed?
My cat Jake(who is an inside cat) gets out too, he see's my son open the door, he is going with him. Jake is fixed & has his claws as well. When he first started getting out, he would hide in the woods next to the house.. OMG! what a pain in the arse.
I used my broom to scare him out of where he was hiding, & he would run to the door he came out of. Try, & give some cat treats (my two are pigs when it comes to treats).
NOW.. he just sits at the door & waits! He gets out probably 1-2 times a week. And he comes back!! He knows where he can get some love, food & relax!!
I hope you can get Smokey inside soon!!!

Re: Smokey peaced out today...
Ok... Still no Smokey. :tears:
:weirdface Bait is gone, but the trap is still empty. :rage: Damn racoons.
Anyway, since Smokey is being a butthead and won't come out from under the deck - I am removing the deck (just enough for me to crawl under there, I hope), needless to say I am not very happy about it. Stoopid cat! He's lucky he's cuddly and cute.
Damn I love that stoopid cat!
Oh, and thanks for the well wishes & ideas ;) MUCH APPRECIATED!!

Re: Smokey peaced out today...
Sorry to hear about this Lena, sounds horrible. :(
I had two cats do this, one I found her sitting by the back door like a sentinel about 9 days later, the other we had to remove a ton of siding and boards to pull her out of hole in the wall. (crazy cat!).
Not much to contribute other than well wishes that you get her back safe and sound... cats seem to be a bit like snakes, the minute you are convinced that it is not going to happen, voila... kitty (or snake) appears.
*fingers crossed* for you.

It drives me nuts when people think that they can just let their dogs roam free. If that happened to me, with the cat in their dogs mouth...well....there would be a 12 gauge waiting...
I'm a dog lover, but when it comes to dogs starting to run free and kill or injure other animals...game over. And I know some may think that it is cruel...but when it comes to destruction of my personal property or peace...usually the county sheriff or humane society understand...
