Re: I was just let go!
Steve, you do have to go through the process of grieving the loss of your job, but you also have to let the negative energy go - it will eat you up and it will show when you interview. You can't be desperate in interviews, you have to be positive.
I was laid off after 9-11 from Nortel Networks. I was devasted. AND I was out of work for a year. Those times were FAR worse than the job market is today. Trust me - my job that year was a professional job searcher.
I immediately filed for unemployment. Plan to do that on Monday so you can at least have some money coming in, no matter how small it is in comparison to your normal check. They also have resources at your unemployment office to help you find job listings you might not otherwise find on your own.
Network, network, network. Be open to applying your skills to another type of role entirely.
What I learned in my year of unemployment? Never to complain about a job again. And that something better really DOES come along and you'll find yourself in a better place. I was just recognized this morning, in fact with my five year service award.
Good things will come to you. You just have to believe it yourself. Negative energy will only draw negative to you. Positive energy will draw positive to you.

Sorry to hear that. Even if they had to let you go, doesn't seem like they went about it the right way. They just tell you one morning that your job is no longer effective that day!?! Kind of messed up.
I don't really know you but I've enjoyed reading your posts and looking at the pictures you post. Like someone above said, keep your head up. “To persevere, trusting in what hopes he has, is courage in a man.” - Europides.

Re: I was just let go!
Chill out. Party this weekend. Why party? because regardless of if you mope around the house all weekend or party your ass off, you are still in the same situation on monday....
Don't be Mr. negative about the job market and the economy. It will get you no where.... and frankly, in your postion it just isn't true. the economy does suck. the job market does suck. Guess who is most needed in this kind of enviromnet tho? That's right... a financial analyst!!!!
Now go party! CONGRADULATIONS!!!! You are a FREE MAN!!!! Where you go from here is completely up to YOU!

Re: I was just let go!
You know, I heard one time, through a friend of someone I had just met who was talking to the girl next to him about something he had heard or read about but, it seems, from what I gathered overhearing this conversation, that a thousand crickets slipped through a mailslot is quite annoying to those whose slot the crickets were slipped.
Isn't it funny what you can hear when people don't suspect you're listening?

Every time one door closes, a new one opens... Take a deep breathe and hang in there. Life has a way of working it self out.
Not to get all religious on ya, but... If God brings you to it - He will will lead you through it!
Best of luck! I will keep you and your family in my thoughts ;)

Re: I was just let go!
I'm hoping all will work out in the end.
I am mentally drained right now.
I spent the day updating my resume and calling various recuiters and looking on Monster.com to see what was out there and put up my resume.
All I can do now is hope for the best.

Re: I was just let go!
hey man, use this experience as motivation.
is there something out there you've always dreamed of doing? NOW IS THE TIME!
Take all of that negative energy and grab life by the balls and go for your dreams.
A similar experience happened to me last year. It was a good thing. I was burnt out so bad at my former job, but due to pay and benefits i would have never left.
my potential was much greater than what my former job had to offer, i just never had the desire to leave due to being so comfy.
But sometimes life makes decisions for you and that is when you gotta take a few jumps...you'll fall, but eventually you'll land.
Good luck man!

Re: I was just let go!
have you thought about doing teaching?
They are in desperate need of subs, and you can work on getting a teaching certificate.
Subs don't need to take all the classes teachers do. i would talk to your local school board OR if they have a union to find out what you could do.
ALSO check out your local community college.
I have a friend who is NOT a teacher, he was in the military in Intel and secret stuff. He teaches a computer course there.
Also if you are a veteran, you can see about certain job benefits and preferences to Vets.
Good luck, I will be looking in less than a month myself.
{{{hugs}}}
