Re: Snake just regurgitated mouse from friday the 23
Yep I noticed you're from Toledo too. So the vet you saw said that the reason for a regurge after that many days post-feeding was due to impending shed and was no big deal?
Far be it from me to argue with a vet but I've had a far few snakes shedding over the past couple of years and I've yet to see one regurge for any reason, but especially not due to shedding. I'm glad the snake checked out okay. Did the vet do a fecal float test on feces to rule out internal parasite load?
I'd definitely give the snake a bit of extra time before another feeding, feed lighter than normal and make sure your husbandry (temps, humidity, hides, thermal gradient, etc.) is dead on. Regurges are nothing to fool with.
After four days there shouldn't be anything much to "get rid of". What size and type of prey did you feed her that she regurged? I don't believe you ever specified that in this thread.

I took her to Dr. Tim Reichard over on Monroe St. He did the fecal float test and some other fecal test and both came back negative for parasites. Now that my tank is all set up properly with heat/ temps correct she seems to be doing fine.
Last friday I fed her a adult mouse. Small but a good size. When she regurged on tuesday night it was about the size of my pinky. Considerably smaller than when I fed her.
She's in-blue right now so her shedding should start soon. Im not gonna feed her till she's done. I told the vet what size mouse I fed her and he said it was fine because she had eaten that size mouse previous to this one.
Re: Snake just regurgitated mouse from friday the 23
you said 17" inches you snake is right? I'd say an adult mouse is way too big and maybe you should size it down to a fuzzy.

I tried giving her a F/T fuzzy but she refused it. I think it's because the store I bought her from fed her small adults. Next time I feed her which is next week after her shed. I'll try with a fuzzy and maybe she will take it then.

You sure it was a regurge? Sounds like it could have been a hairy :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: to me.. 5-6 days is a long time for it to be regurged. RECHECK your temps before even trying to feed again!!

Hi,
Are you really sure that is what the vet said because if shed's caused this I would have expected at least some of us to have seen it.

Yeah thats what the vet said. Also my temps could have been off too. Both of those things could have led to the regurge. But I finally after hrs of setting everything up right, the temps are perfect and after getting the fecal tests back saying no parasites I can only assume that it was just a freak occurrence and in the future she will be fine. It could also have been the mouse. Maybe too big...
Re: Snake just regurgitated mouse from friday the 23
From what I read here, I, too, was surprised that anything would be left to regurgitate that long after feeding. But the temps are important for digesting. We usually encourage Mrs. Snake to use her warm hide after she eats. We noticed that she was preferring her cool side when the hides were not the same. So we now have two identical hides - one on each side of the heat gradient. Yes, they will choose security over health. In the wild, that could mean life or death. It's not a conscious decision - just what they do - like not knowing any better than to sit on a warm heat rock that ends up burning them.
IMHO, just keep an eye on her for awhile and give her a break before feeding again. How big around is her body? The prey size should be no bigger than the thickest part of her body.
Good luck!
