Re: Favorite classic (or new) scary movies???
The Grudge
The Ring
Black Christmas (2006)
The Others
Alien
The Exorcist
Signs
those i can think of off the top of my head. i know im missing some.
Re: Favorite classic (or new) scary movies???
I love Asian Horror flicks, particularly the suspenseful ghost related ones! Which is also why I can't stand the Americanized remakes though.
Love Ringu, can't stand The Ring.
Same with the Grudge vs Ju-On
One Missed Call
I'm very sad they're remaking A Tale of Two Sisters (excellent Asian Horror, check it out before the remake ruins it for you!)
I even make Sadako decor for Halloween around the house, from the original Ringu. :D I have most of the Ringu movies, I'm fascinated by her... one of the few movies that had me jumping at shadows for weeks after!

The remakes suck all of the soul and sympathy out of it for the ghosts. The Grudge was SO close to being as good as the original... so close. Ending was botched big time. :(
I like lots of others though too. Both funny and thrillers!
Sean of the Dead,
The Howling
The Thing (80s one, actually I like a lot of 80s horror)
Young Frankenstein
Alien
The Others
Devil's Backbone
the Evil Dead movies
Donnie Darko
Candyman
and of course the CLASSIC Ghostbusters!
I don't do well with anything with torture scenes or extended gore type stuff... especially where lots of pain and eyeballs are involved. But stuff that makes me jump and/or laugh or think is awesome! Suspense is good, gore... that can be overdone imho.
Re: Favorite classic (or new) scary movies???
I absolutely LOVE a good scary movie!!
Many have named all the ones that I have loved though.
My all time scariest movie is The Poltergeist... I was real little when I saw it the first time and it still scares me. It has turned me away from liking clowns forever as well as tv snow.....
I love older scary movies, some of them make the best comedies!!! Like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre...
I remember many a slumber party where we would be dying laughing watching this movie. Another hilarious "scary movie" is Army of Darkness.

Now with the benefit of hindsight you can look back on it and see it for what it was but at the time it scared the bejesus out of us. The BBC had to apology the next day because the film caused a massive uproar and apparently a few people topped themselves, blaming the programme in their suicide notes. With us being irish and raised on ghost stories, banshees and haunted houses we fell for it
Anyway heres a small clip of said programme. Look out for the curtains when the camera is panning round in the first segment

it's called ghost hunt, originally they made it seem like a documentary about a haunting but it was all fake (they did a bad job of letting the uk know it wasnt real) and it started a huge controversy (kids getting post traumatic distress, and one suicide) people failed to pay attention to the "credits at the end" in google type in "ghost watch bbc torrent" and see if you can find it. Im a horror movie nerd and I NEVER get scared by movies or docs or anything, but im not gonna lie, ghostwatch made me a little uneasy haha
Re: Favorite classic (or new) scary movies???
the shining
silence of the lambs
saw 1-4 (they're dumb but i love them!!!!)
the texas chainsaw massacre movies (remade)
jeepers creepers 1 and 2
the hills have eyes 1 and 2 (really rather funny if you ask me)
the blair witch project (the second one doesn't make any sense and is stupid)
the exorsist
and the most hillarious-suposed-to-be-scary movie of all time is.....when a stranger calls- remake! when i saw it on the big screen our entire theater was crying out of laughter. it was hilarious!
these are my favorites...scary movies don't really scare me much. let's just say i have yet to see one that i won't watch twice. i love them all so much!! they're fantastic!
