To each his/her own. I'd just rather spend 10% of what I'd have to pay for a Mac, personally, for a nice PC.

there are 3 macs in my house, and no windows pc's. i can do everything i want to on my macs. i don't need windows for anything. compatibility is not an issue anymore. it's all about simplicity, plug and play.

example- you just buy a new printer. in windows you plug it in pop in the drivers and install them, restart, then try and print. with a mac you plug it in, go to file print, Voila!

i looooooove my macs. i am not a total fan of apple (iphone and itunes store suck at this moment), but i will own a mac till they start planting computers in our brains....

I'm glad you looooove your Macs. The cheapest your family got off buying 3 Macs is like $6k. I would certainly hope they can function for you. I would never pay an extra few thousand dollars for plug and play simplicity. You act like Win XP isn't good w/ PnP. It is, even on a $150 machine. I did editing and video special effects for a multi million dollar feature film, all on a PC while the studio all used incredibally overpriced Macs. When they saw what I was able to do, the entire company switched from 100% Macs to 80% PCs, and bought me a $3,000 PC for my good work and showing them that Macs are a waste of money. Anyone whose seen Napoleon Dynimite know's Uncle Rico. His best friend is a cinematographer who used to live in Glenn Ellyn, IL., and he gave me the biggest hug I've ever seen when I showed him a trick that saved him over a hundred hours of B.S. work by making an applet on my used, $200 laptop, while he was grinding it out on a $11,000 Mac. Basically what I'm saying is:
    1. the days of Win 3.1 are long gone.
    2. During those days Macs were P.O.S and still expensive, w/out decent cheap sofware.
    3. You can get a new PC with XP pro that will blow away any Mac that costs 2x or more than the PC.
    4. PCs are no longer POS.
    5. If you never learned DOS or anything since the 80's you might be better off with an overpriced PnP Mac system, but than you're not allowed to talk about Unix or Linux, unless you think they are the newest thing made for your $4k Mac. I can go on, but I don't care. I just hate seeing people acting like PCs are garbage, while Apple products are the only useful machines. I think a good rule of thumb is that any Mac is outmatched by any PC or Linux system that costs at least 50% of said Mac. Also, I've never run into anything that wasn't plug and play compatable with Win XP SP2. I still hate MS, but Apple never made much sense to me. The big reasons for using Macs in a professional environment were als\ways music production, movie editing and graphic design. I've used Macs and PCs for every aspect of these and Macs have nothing that explains the price tags over PCs.

but that's kind of what you are doing, just the other way around...

i have used pcs for as long as i have used macs and for what i need to do (graphic/web design and some multimedia), i have to use a mac. i've had pcs that were equally equipped as the macs i had at the same time and they just couldn't do the work i needed them to do at the speed i needed to do it but that's just me--it doesn't mean it works that way for everyone. :)

6K for three macs... yea right. i have a mac mini ($800) and me and my girlfriend both have macbooks ($1200 and $1100), which is nowhere near 6k.

i grew up with windows, i only got my first mac (the mini) in 2005. i just find the things i do the most, like music, photos, movies, browsing the web, maybe a game for chess, are nice and simple. not to mention the good looks of OS X...

and on a final note... if i really want/need to have windows, i don't need to spend $150 or what ever you said. my mac has boot camp, which will turn my mac in to a PC, all i got to do is buy a copy of XP.
