That's absolutely correct. Many of the higher priced ball pythons are "purchased" in a trade - cash deal. Not all though . . . I have held many a ball python that was priced and bought with cash that totaled 10s of thousands of $$. Remember, it was only 3 or 4 years ago that blue-eyed lucys were $60,000 - $100,000 and now look at their price - below $10,000 retail.

I love those snakes! I was priveledged enough to hold one in Daytona (thank you Kara), and those snakes are absolutely beyond words. You hold those babies under the light and you see rainbows. The irridescence is absolutely unbelievable.

Like Judy said, people pay thousands of dollars on a car. Why not on such a unique animal that would be a major asset in your breeding stock? Now if I could only get her to make one of those in a smaller size....

OK, I am relatively new to owning a BP and I only have one right now. It's no super special genetic blend, morph, or what ever else they are being called. I have grown to love my BP and would love to get another one in the future. However, I cannot see myself nor could I ever afford to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars just because it has different patterns or different colors in them. Don't get me wrong I think alot of the pics I see are plain awesome in the coloring and the patterns. But I can't see forking over a month, 6 months, or even a years salary for it. Heck I have a hard enough time forking that money over for my house and my car which are neccessities of life. Just my 2 cents

Nor should anyone fork over 6 months or a years salary for one, ESPECIALLY if doing so puts them in the poor house so to speak. A month, maybe - with a payment plan.

People who can afford these animals without compromising their other obligations are generally the ones who are.

It all depends on what YOU place value on. I can't see spending $50-$100 on a pair of tennis shoes (which is why I shop at Payless), but I wouldn't blink on spending the same amount on a nice normal ball python. No WAY would I spend $200-$400 at one time on a clothes shopping spree. But give me a gorgeous pastel, and I wouldn't hesitate to spend that money. Doesn't make it wrong that someone else would spend that money on clothes or shoes, it just means that's more important them, whereas a nice addition to my collection is more important to me.

I think it is quite ridiculous to pay some of these prices. Do these snakes clean dishes and fold clothes?

Anyway, if I bumped into someone paying 30k-100k for a snake I would laugh in there face, collector or not.

Unless they have a plan written out to start breeding. But even that is risky cause how do you know the snake will breed? How do you know the snake will live?

Sorry, but they are my thoughts.

    i think the same thing

and if the 50K+ snake died, would the breeder/person give you a replacement which would be a "free" 50k+ snake especially if it's a new/hard to find morph? i doubt it.

Not olny that but its bacause people pay 30 -100K for a snake that we have the industry. Ask Adam or Tim or Sean or Ralph what they paid for a pastel 5-10 years ago. Now people whine cause some people still ask 250.00 for a male. Hell 3 years ago pastels were 2000.00 for a male pieds were 8500.00 for a males and axanthics or Spiders for get it your talking major dough

Prime example Mojos last year that 12months - 365 days - 52 weeks a femal would run you 1200-2000.00 now look at them 500 males 600 females.

If I could pay 100K for a new morph would I HELL YEA!!!! Its all in the value you place on the animal pastels are a dime a dozen hence the price. But Phantoms or some of the stuff NERD is holding on to. The possibilities are endless not only from a return on an investment stand point but also for future combos creations and sales.

Breeders/people that can't fathom paying that for an animal don't have the business mind set.

    Just my two cents
