    Re: Getting into boas hopefully
Wouldn't know about breeders up there... sorry, I'm from the midwest.

But I was wondering how often your neighbor feeds her snake? As adults, boas really only need fed once every couple of weeks. Overfeeding a snake can cause serious health problems... obesity and shortening of life span.

Not saying she is... just throwing that out there (you can usually tell if a boa has been overfed most of it's life because it's head will be a lot smaller in proportion to it's body). Think you could get pics? I'd definitely be interested in seeing a big boa like that!

well, i can't say the head is samller in proportion bcause its the only live boa ive ever seen close up and not really sure wat "normal" size is. She feeds it 4 jumbo rats about every week and a half, and once again not positive but i think thats over feeding. and the pic probably aren't gonna happen till christmas wen my sister gets home with her camera bcause all i have is a cell phone ands i cant fit it all in the lens, but definitely look for them theyll be up.

Um, yes, I would say over-feeding. An adult boa (if not breeding) does just fine on being fed every couple of weeks or three. They do have a tendency to become obese.

If your friend has been feeding like this since the boa was a baby---the term is power-feeding---I'd definitely say the snake is NOT healthy. You might want to explain that feeding like this can severely shorten a snake's life...
